We are excited to host the annual Power of Nature Fair (Nov 4 - 8) at the Calgary Public Library. We have prepared many exciting activities which include technology that offer multi-sensory experiences to support student learning. The program will teach students about electricity, where it comes from, and explore ways to reduce usage at school and at home. Last year, one Grade 5 student said that "this was the best day of the year!" Well, we plan to deliver the same experience this year, as registration is now fully booked with schools are gearing up to enjoy a fun week. Thank you to our funders who allow this event to remain free for schools: Bullfrog Power an energy provider that puts 100% green electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional electricity the event uses, displacing energy from polluting sources. Across Canada, Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind, solar and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.  The Honda Foundation #hondacanadafoundation who annually invest over $2 million in various causes across Canada to secure a brighter future our communities.

Get a closer look at what we do! Join us for our FREE annual Waste Reduction Week online program for schools. In this workshop you can see our approach to early childhood environmental education. Hosted the week before Waste Reduction Week (Tuesday October 15 10-10:45am) this online session aims to inspire young students to take action to make a positive change in the classroom and school! Previously schools have hosted litter picks, litter-free lunches and conducted school-wide waste assessments after attending. During this session students will learn about our waste system in Calgary, what happens to our garage and why it is so important to REDUCE the amount of waste we create. This online session will include interactive quiz questions and opportunities for short discussions within your classrooms to ensure it is fun and engaging for all participants. The day of Truth and Reconciliation (Sept 30, 2024) is a time to recognize and remember the ongoing effects of the residential school system on indigenous communities. As educators this day highlights the need to be intentional and aware of how we guide our students. We also continue to take inspiration and wisdom from indigenous communities who are the pioneer stewards and caretakers of these lands that we now occupy. Listen to what this day means to Stephanie Alcock (Southgate), our Environmental Education Program Manager Learn more about the importance of this day using the resources below: Get involved: https://buff.ly/47FLODL Resources: https://buff.ly/4c3OgVx
