🥑 🏃♂️ 🥕 Can personalized lifestyle interventions help improve the efficacy of prostate cancer treatments? 🥑 🏃♂️ 🥕 In recent years, researchers have found that a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet can make prostate cancers more aggressive. To better understand why this happens -- and to determine if lifestyle interventions can help improve the efficacy to cancer therapies -- the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network is funding a team of researchers in #Quebec, #Ontario and #BritishColumbia. Led by Drs. Vincent Fradet (CHU de Quebec | Université Laval) and David Labbé, (RI-MUHC | Research Institute of the MUHC | #rimuhc#rimuhc – McGill University) the team will collect and study different data from cancer patients to see if there is a connection between a patient's genetics, lifestyle, gut microbiome, and their cancer outcomes. “We hope this new knowledge will help us create lifestyle recommendations that can prevent or slow down cancer progression, enhance treatment effectiveness, or stop the cancer from coming back,” say Drs. Fradet and Labbé. “We believe that in the future, lifestyle changes will be a crucial part of personalized cancer treatment plans to achieve the best possible outcomes and improve the quality of life for cancer patients. This research is the first step toward that goal.” 🔬 Project title: Precision lifestyle to optimize prostate cancer treatments 💰 Funding Program: MOHCCN Pan-Canadian Project Program 👨🔬 Research team: Vincent Fradet (CHU de Quebec - Université Laval) – Co-Leader (PI); David Labbé, Ph.D., agr., chm.
