Our team had the pleasure of visiting one of our charity partners, GlobalMedic (David McAntony Gibson Foundation). Thank you WestJet for helping us get the right aid to the right people at the right time! Today, WestJet flew our Rapid Response Team to Montego Bay along with a water purification system. From there our team will travel to Treasure Beach to install the system in a community kitchen to help keep affected families healthy as they recover from Hurricane Beryl. Thanks to WestJet, the kitchen will have safe water to cook with and the community will have access to clean drinking water.

The high winds, flooding and storm surge caused by Hurricane Beryl created extensive damage in Jamaica, leaving many families without access to clean drinking water and at risk of dangerous waterborne illnesses. Thanks to the generous support of WestJet, our Rapid Response Team is en route to Jamaica with an AquaResponse3 Water Purification system and two generators. This equipment will be installed at a community kitchen that is distributing meals for people affected by the hurricane to ensure the food is prepared with safe water.

Hurricane Beryl caused extensive damage in Jamaica and many vulnerable families are at risk because they lack access to food and clean drinking water. Our Emergency Food Kits and Family Emergency Kits have arrived in Jamaica this weekend and will support affected families. Each Family Emergency Kit contains a point-of-use water purification unit, a solar light, and essential hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap. Our point-of-use water purification units use gravity to filter out over 99.9999 percent of bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms found in dirty or contaminated water. These units can provide an entire family with clean drinking water for up to one year. Yesterday Air Canada flew 720 Family Emergency Kits and 720 Emergency Food Kits to Jamaica to support affected communities. The food kits were supported and packed by IDRF volunteers to help feed families in need. Air Canada flew a larger aircraft to Jamaica to bring Canadians home after Hurricane Beryl. With more cargo space available, they reached out to see if we had aid to send with them. We sent 720 Family Emergency Kits with household water purification units, hygiene items and solar lights and 720 Emergency Food Kits to the airport and Air Canada flew them to Montego Bay this morning.
