About us
The ๐ ๐๐ provides First Nations with the tools required to govern their communities and manage finances. First Nations Financial Management Board (๐ ๐๐) The purpose of these institutions was to create a mechanism to provide support and tools to First Nations to strengthen their communities and build foundations for economic development. The FMB is seeking the services of a researcher and writer who understands finance to assist in the creation of a report. The report will summarize the reasons why an increasing number of First Nations are experiencing delays in the preparation and issuance of their audited financial statements. It will also present potential strategies and solutions to address and mitigate issues identified in the report. We're asking for proposals to be submitted by August 5, 2024. More details can be found in the attached Request for Proposal.

What do Canadians see as the barriers to achieving reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people? The Confederation of Tomorrow survey by the The Environics Institute for Survey Research shows that the top two major barriers to reconciliation are inadequate infrastructure and services available to Indigenous Peoples living in remote communities and socio-economic inequalities. How do Canadians feel about the prospects for meaningful progress on reconciliation? The Indigenous Reconciliation report, based on this yearโs Confederation of Tomorrow survey by The Environics Institute for Survey Research, shows that despite ongoing barriers and unkept promises, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people are optimistic, rather than pessimistic, by a two-to-one margin. A clear majority feels optimistic that meaningful progress toward reconciliation will happen in their lifetime. This optimism is more widely expressed by Indigenous respondents โ a sentiment that has strengthened over the past year. Full report: https://lnkd.in/eKDYQv3Z

โI believe that all political parties will have an interest in ensuring the Canadian economy can sustain and grow, and to do that they are going to need Indigenous partners.โ - FMB Executive Chair Harold Calla, speaking to the Senate Standing Committee on Indigenous Peoples recently as part of their study on the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, 2021.

Harold Calla, Executive Chair of the FMB, and Michael Rice, Chair of the First Nations Market Housing Fund signed an MOU today in Montreal, entering into a relationship that permits and encourages cooperation, collaboration, and the sharing of information. When a First Nation has chosen to work with both our organizations, we will collaborate to develop a joint training plan for that Nation, which will identify the roles and responsibilities of each party.ย The MOU is another action to support the choices that First Nations make in building better futures. More and more First Nations are choosing to use the optional financial management tools that are available to them โ resulting in more resources, better services, and higher quality housing in communities. ย ย โImproving the wellbeing of our communities is going to be key in getting government to move down the path with all of us and changing the status quo.โ - Harold Callaย
