We are thrilled to announce a collaborative initiative in Northern Ontario with Medix College of Healthcare and the Living Classroom program, an innovative approach to personal support worker (PSW) education focused on practical in-person experience. “Extendicare is excited to do our part to strengthen the seniors’ care workforce by educating future personal support workers through the Living Classroom program,” says Johanna Horne, Regional Director at Extendicare in Northern Ontario. “Extendicare’s highly qualified health professionals will offer invaluable first-hand experience to help students build new skills through delivering quality care to seniors. Extendicare homes in Calgary recently hosted an event highlighting ParaMed's Foot Care program. The service benefits many Extendicare Hillcrest residents and is now launching at Cedars Villa. ParaMed Calgary nurses with advanced footcare certifications provide support and service to residents, enhancing quality of care.  

This week's #WednesdayWordsofWisdom come from Pilar, a resident at Extendicare Scarborough, whose life lessons are good for the heart in more ways than one.

Extendicare Cedars Villa joined in on the Calgary Stampede fun with summer events showing off the spirit of the west. MLA Janet Eremenko and Naheed Nenshi, Alberta NDP leader, attended the festivities and enjoyed breakfast and BBQ with team members, residents, and families. A great day for everyone!

Ontario Minister of Long-Term Care Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, MPP Patrice Barnes joined our CEO Dr. Michael Guerriere for a visit at Extendicare Winbourne Park. It was a pleasure to welcome the Minister and discuss our commitment to the delivery of high quality care for long-term care residents at the home, and across our long-term care homes in Ontario. Our clinical teams in particular were delighted to connect with the Minister, who herself is a Registered Nurse. Thank you, Minister, for your time engaging with our residents, team members and leadership team. #ImprovingCareEveryDay

Wyndham Manor residents, families and team members enjoyed a visit from MP Anita Indira Anand Friday morning. Thank you, MP Anand, for making the time to drop by and connect with residents and answer questions.

This week, Extendicare Hillcrest celebrated the Calgary Stampede with a visit from NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi and MLA Kathleen Ganley who joined in for a western-themed BBQ and a visit with residents, families and staff. Thank you for dropping in to spend an afternoon with us.
