✨"...we have a green-washing law that is an assault on the freedom of expression constitutionally guaranteed to everyone in Canada. Suppression of information and discussion should be of concern to everyone... Indigenous groups have invested considerable political and financial capital in the energy industry, and efforts to diminish that industry are a direct threat to economic reconciliation that will provide a meaningful quality of life after generations of economic exclusion."✨ 🔍 Powerful analysis by Karen Ogen, CEO, First Nations LNG Alliance, on the impacts of 'greenwashing' law on economic reconciliation for Indigenous peoples in Canada. Chair of Energy for a Secure Future - keen to advance a new conversation on #Energy, resilient communities at home and abroad, reconciliation, infrastructure, and innovation.
An important conversation is happening at #AFN this week on ensuring access to affordable energy on reserve. This is a topic Energy for a Secure Future has been working to better understand in collaboration with First Nations Power Authority. I met the Chief of Muscowpetung in April of this year and learned about this issue. It is also a reality in many Indigenous communities in other provinces including BC, AB and ON. I'm glad Chief Tavita's community and others in the province are bringing visibility to an issue that is akin the the boil-water issue. #Affordable energy is a pre-requisite for social mobility and quality of life. These communities are seeking #naturalgas is their best solution and getting support for this Infrastructure is critical: "Muscowpetung doesn't have natural gas service to any of the 125 homes on the reserve. Tavita said she pays around $700 a month for her electric heating bill and knows of other members who pay around $1,000 a month." #energy4people #leadership #reconciliation

"Canada is ready and able to deliver solutions the world needs, like the LNG that our partners are looking for, developed in a cleaner, fairer way than ever before. The partnership between the Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation is a model for Canada and the world. This project is about economic reconciliation, it’s about energy security, it’s about clean energy, it’s about building a better future for all Canadians.” – The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry expressed his support on the innovative, majority Indigenous–owned, natural resource project, Cedar LNG Read more ➡ https://lnkd.in/g4vGxSfX #economicReconciliation #EnergySecurity #CanadianLNG

It was great to chat with the Hon. Lisa Raitt about the recent Energy for a Secure Future paper by Mike Cleland - Getting Canada's Energy Future Right: a consumer lens on energy in Canada. There are many things we have to get right on the road to a low emission energy system and having a clear line of site on consumers and their needs is central to having a resilient and sustainable approach. Please visit our website to see the full paper: www.energysecurefuture.ca #energy4people #energyfundamentals #leadership

Action to reduce emissions means holding many balls in the air - including food security. This a great piece with remarks from Energy for a Secure Future Advisory Council Member Keith Currie speaking to the energy realities of Canadian farmers at a recent Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership event. Insights from practitioners like Keith - an 8th generation farmer - is key to getting Canada's energy and environmental policy right. #energyTrilemma #leadership #energy4people Farmers “don’t have a lot of options” when it comes to energy sources so “getting natural gas expansion through rural Canada, in particular, is very important to us" https://lnkd.in/enF7s5-d
