The national voice & champion for mental health in Canadian agriculture.

About us

We are champions for the mental wellbeing of those in the Canadian agriculture industry and are changing the culture of Agriculture to one where all are encouraged, supported and empowered to take care of their mental wellbeing. Agriculture is an industry with a foundation of deep rural roots, hard work, resilience, strength and community. In order to uphold that image, those traits can also be the industry’s weakness as they become barriers for speaking up and seeking help. Those in the Canadian agriculture industry are among the most vulnerable when it comes to mental health issues. Stress, anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion and burnout are all high in the industry. By collaborating with the entire industry and those working to address the state of mental health in Agriculture, we can and will make a substantial impact!

  • Talking about mental health can be tough, but it’s essential for our well-being. Here’s how to start and navigate these important conversations: 1. Choose the Right Time and Place: Find a quiet, private spot where you won’t be interrupted. 2. Be Honest and Direct: Share your thoughts and concerns openly and respectfully. 3. Listen Actively: Give your full attention, nod, and acknowledge their feelings. 4. Show Empathy: Use phrases like “I understand” or “That sounds really tough.” 5. Avoid Judgement: Create a safe space for sharing without criticism or judgement. 6. Offer Support: Ask how you can help or suggest professional resources if needed. Starting the conversation is the first step to making a difference. For more resources and support, visit domore.ag/agtalk and join the AgTalk community.

  • 🌱💚 Cultivating a space where our mental health can thrive is similar to how we create an environment where our crops can grow. Just like we invest time, effort, and resources into nurturing our fields, it's crucial to prioritize our mental wellbeing and create a supportive space for our minds to flourish. 1️⃣ Nourishment: Just as crops need the right nutrients to thrive, our minds require nourishment. By creating a mental health-friendly environment, we can provide ourselves with the emotional, psychological, and social support needed to grow and flourish. 2️⃣ Eliminating Toxicity: Just as we remove weeds and pests from our fields, we must eliminate toxic influences in our mental health space. Surrounding ourselves with positive and supportive people, setting healthy boundaries, and engaging in activities that uplift our spirits are essential for a thriving mental environment. 3️⃣ Growth and Resilience: A conducive mental health space allows us to develop resilience and grow personally. It encourages self-reflection, self-care, and self-compassion, enabling us to navigate challenges and setbacks with strength and adaptability. 4️⃣ Prevention and Early Intervention: Creating a safe space for mental health also helps in early identification of issues. By being attuned to our emotions and seeking support when needed, we can catch potential struggles early on and address them proactively, promoting overall well-being.
