On September 30th, we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is dedicated to honouring the children who did not return from residential schools, as well as recognizing the survivors, their families, and their communities. Acknowledging the painful history and lasting impacts of residential schools is essential for the reconciliation journey. It serves as a reminder for all of us to focus on building meaningful connections with Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Throughout September, we have provided our employees with resources to deepen their understanding of Canada's history and encourage them to engage in local community events to show their support. Our goal is not just to reflect but to make a tangible difference through informed action and community support. Let us all commit to honouring survivors, their families, and communities as a crucial part of the ongoing reconciliation process, today and into the future. With school back in session, let’s talk lunch safety! 🍎 To keep homemade lunches fresh, pack them in a soft-sided insulated bag with at least two cold sources. You can use two frozen gel packs or a frozen juice box and water bottle. Place these cold sources on both the top and bottom of the food to keep everything cool and safe at 40°F or below. For hot meals like soup or chili, use an insulated container. Preheat it with boiling water, then add your hot food and keep it sealed until lunchtime. Don’t forget to discard leftovers, used packaging, and paper bags after lunch to avoid contamination. For a no-refrigeration option, try whole fruits, hard cheese, canned meats, chips, and more. #TalkingHSEQTuesday #BacktoSchool #SafeLunch #HSEQinEverythingWeDo #DexterraGroup

Ensuring safety during lightning is crucial for maintaining a secure and healthy work environment. ⚡ Lightning is the electrical discharge between charged particles in the sky and the ground or other objects. The force of a lightning discharge is extremely powerful and can cause serious injury or death for persons struck by lightning. How is lightning detected and what actions to take? • Human detection: If you see lightning or hear thunder, use the 30-30 rule. If the lightning flash and thunder are within 30 seconds of each other, STOP and relocate to a safe location. • Lightning detectors: If it alarms, a local storm is present, and all personnel must move to a safe location. What are safe locations in the event of lightning? • Fully enclosed buildings • Vehicle or equipment cabs with windows and doors closed • Note: all personnel must come down off structures and be removed from confined spaces. Crane lifts must also stop. How long do you stay in a safe location? • At least 30 minutes has passed since the last lightning flash or • There is more than 30 seconds between lightning and thunder or • The lightning detector no longer alarms. 💡 Ensure there is training and a plan in place for everyone's safety. #TalkingHSEQTuesday #LightningSafety #HSEQinEverythingWeDo #DexterraGroup

International Youth Day is celebrated annually to recognize the important role young people hold in promoting positive change and development in today's society. At Dexterra Group, we take an inclusive approach to celebrating youth & the environment through our Outland Youth Employment Program (OYEP). OYEP is a national network of land-based education, training and work opportunities for high school aged Indigenous Youth. Each year, we take a number of Indigenous Youth on a six-week work experience, providing training and education in a supportive space that replicates various work environments. Today and everyday we celebrate youth! #InternationalYouthDay #InternationalYouthDay2024 #OYEP

Let’s work together to protect our planet 🌎 Here are 3 environmental concerns to be aware of: 1. Pollution - one of the primary causes of the other environmental concerns, including climate change and biodiversity. All 7 key types of pollution – air, water, soil, noise, radioactive, light and thermal – are affecting our environment. 2. Deforestation - the forests provide oxygen, food, water and medicine for everyone. If deforestation continues at the rate it’s occurring, we won’t have much forest left. 3. Greenhouse Gasses – contributes to our changing climate, trapping in the sun’s heat and warming the surface of the earth. A recent UN report states, without ‘unprecedented changes’ in our actions and behaviour, our planet will suffer drastically from global warming in 12 years. Let's all think about sustainable actions we can take today! #TalkingHSEQTuesday #HSEQInEverythingWeDo #EnvironmentalConcerns #DexterraGroup
