Unconditional love, relentless support, and absolute respect for young people as they overcome homelessness

About us

Covenant House Vancouver’s purpose is to serve all youth, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and to protect and safeguard all youth in need. We help young people aged 16 to 24 who have fled physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; those who have been forced from their homes; those who have experienced human trafficking and those who have aged out of foster care with no supports. Covenant House relies on the generosity of over 50,000 individuals and organizations to provide shelter, food, clothing and counselling to over 100 individual young people every day. Covenant House provides three core services: Community Support Services (CSS) which provides outreach, a drop-in program and housing support. 63 bed Crisis Program with female and male only spaces. Rights of Passage (ROP) a transitional living program. Covenant House Vancouver offers a raft of wrap-around services in addition to our core programs. We use evidence-informed theories and practices that ensure they care for the entire person – mind, body, and spirit. Services range from outreach and drop-in to residential and support services that enable youth to transition into independence successfully. CHV uses a “one size, fits one” approach, tailored to the specific needs of each individual youth. This ensures that precise supports are made available to youth based on their respective journey meeting each youth’s unique needs.

If you are a youth that needs a safe place to stay cool, visit our Drop-In Centre 👇🏼 📍1280 Seymour Street 📞 call 604-685-7474 or 1-877-685-7474 🌡️This week, the Lower Mainland is under a heat warning. Throughout BC, 22 temperature records were shattered, this past Sunday, and an air quality advisory is currently in effect. While cold temperatures often come to mind when considering weather-related challenges for those experiencing homelessness, extreme heat is equally dangerous. For those who are homeless or precariously housed, extreme heat can be perilous. These individuals may lack access to fresh water, sunscreen, and cool places to stay. Fraser Health highlights, “Summer heat can pose serious health risks to people experiencing homelessness or living in precarious housing, especially those with pre-existing heart, lung, or mental health conditions.” At Covenant House Vancouver, we take proactive steps to protect youth from the heat. We ensure that those living outside or staying with us have access to essential supplies like water bottles, sunscreen, and cool clothing. Our Drop-In Centre provides a safe, air-conditioned space where youth can shower, hydrate, eat nutritious food, and escape the sun. Here’s how you can help support young people during this extreme heat: ✅ Check on vulnerable neighbours and community members. ✅ Encourage those in need of a cool place to visit a cooling centre. ✅ Make a monetary donation to help provide immediate support 👉🏼: https://lnkd.in/gtWgzCNA ✅ Donate much-needed items such as sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, electric and hand fans, water/Gatorade, energy bars, and cooling towels. Together, we can ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our community this summer. 🌞 #HeatWave #CommunitySupport #Homelessness #CovenantHouseVancouver #SummerSafety #BCWeather #YouthSupport

We are delighted to introduce Virginia Pryor (aka Ginger) as Covenant House Vancouver's new ambassador and Covenant House International's (CHI) new Chief Strategy Officer. Ginger visited our Vancouver site for the first time, last month, and we couldn't be more thrilled about the positive impact that she's already making! During her visit, Ginger spent valuable time with our CEO, our program managers, and our Senior Management Team. She toured all three of our buildings and connected with various staff members, to learn about our programs and services, firsthand. A standout moment was Ginger's interaction with alumni youth who have graduated from our programs. They shared their stories, challenges, and dreams for the future, and Ginger shared CHI's new strategic roadmap. This meaningful exchange left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Ginger expressed her "building envy" over our beautiful new spaces and felt inspired to share her experiences here with other Covenant House sites. This visit was just the beginning, and we look forward to welcoming her back often. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this exciting journey together! #CovenantHouseVancouver #CHI #NewAmbassador #YouthSupport

Today is Canadian Multiculturalism Day. 🎉 It is a day to honour our many cultural communities, and a chance to celebrate cultural diversity, as we work towards equity and inclusion. 🤝🏽 Enacted in 1988, The Canadian Multiculturalism Act serves as a legislative framework for the promotion and protection of multiculturalism in Canada. 📜 Celebrating multiculturalism at CHV helps youth with the challenges that they may face, by: ·       Providing youth with a safe space to be themselves ·       Having staff who understand the diverse experiences that youth face, so that we can support them in a trauma-informed way You can learn more about Canadian Multiculturalism Day, The Canadian Multiculturalism Act, and about how we embrace multiculturalism at CHV, here👉🏽: https://lnkd.in/geBNTmya. #CanadianMulticulturalismDay #celebrate #Canada #equality #diversity #CHV
