Thank you Greater Vancouver Board of Trade for having Coast Mental Health Foundation at your golf tournament today so we could educate all the golfers on all the programs and services that Coast provides in our communities. Also saw some familiar faces, the RBC team stopped by for a quick hello. Martin Thibodeau always a pleasure. Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club.

For 45 years, Coast Mental Health has been empowering people living with mental illness by providing three essential pillars of sustained recovery: housing, support services, and employment/education. Every donation to Coast Mental Health Foundation provides people living with mental illness with a meaningful place in our community – a place to live, a place to connect, and a place to work.

#Selfcare is a lifelong habit. It’s a way to take proactive steps to look after our own well-being, both physically and mentally. On July 24, we celebrate #SelfCareDay, which highlights the importance of self-care in our well-being journeys. At Coast Mental Health, we empower our clients to take the lead in their recovery. Our Clubhouse, located in Mount Pleasant, provides daily programs offering valuable opportunities for clients to engage in self-care as a part of their recovery. One of these programs is the Gardening Group. Under guidance of Clubhouse staff, members of the group work together to plant and water. Participants have found that engaging in this activity not only enhances their gardening skills but also alleviates anxiety and improves their appetite. Moreover, they emphasize that the social component of the group plays a significant role in their well-being. Today and beyond, we advocate for the importance of self-care in everyday life. Whether it's a simple stroll watering your plants, these small acts can have a profound impact on our #wellbeing.

Thank you RBC for your ongoing support.
Many of us are familiar with the children's book "The Little Engine That Could", which focuses on the theme of: Difficult problems can be solved when everyone works together. As it relates to mental health, this theme couldn't be more true. For this reason I am proud to share that RBC is donating $24,000 to Coast Mental Health in support of their Youth Culinary Training program. It is one of 55 programs Coast delivers to help young adults who face challenges with mental health, life skills, and workplace training. Coast also operates 46 properties within the Lower Mainland, supporting hundreds of people within the community. This organization delivers tremendous value to a vulnerable population, working to solve difficult problems by partnering with many friends. We're proud to share our Annual Reports with you. Last year, thousands of clients received support through housing, psychosocial rehabilitation, and recovery employment and education opportunities. Housing is where it all starts, and we provided homes with supports to 1,068 people across 53 facilities in Greater Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. And, thanks to the generosity of donors, 35 programs and activities offer additional supports that improve their lives. You can look forward to reading the inspiring stories of Art, Joe, Dayley and Josh, and their journeys to recovery with Coast. And you can delve into the many ways we have been working to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to physical and psychological safety for both staff and clients with initiatives like staff training, Brain Training, and the LifeGuardLite App pilot. 👇Click here to read more about the impact of our work last year - made possible thanks to you, our community of partners, grantors, corporate donors and the many individuals that choose to make a difference every day. And it goes without saying that none of this work would happen without our incredible team of staff here at Coast. https://lnkd.in/gRZ5k2p8 #CoastCommunity #CommunityMentalHealth #YesInMyBackyard

“This year’s AGM was a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of our staff, Board, and volunteers, as well as a celebration of our clients’ journeys and contributions to the community,” says Coast Mental Health CEO, Keir Macdonald On July 10, we held our 51st Coast Foundation Society (1974) Annual General Meeting and awards presentations and used the opportunity to celebrate staff and clients! Here are some highlights: ✨ We recognized Board Directors who are retiring from their service to Coast as well as those who are continuing or seeking appointment. ✨ We presented the Heart of Coast awards to Coast employees, recognizing those who truly embody the values of Coast through their actions and spirit. ✨ We presented the Carma Rogers Awards to clients from different Coast programs, recognizing their spirit of passion and creativity, service to others and contribution to Coast community, perseverance and self-determination, thoughtfulness and caring for other Coast members. ✨ Finally, we were honoured to hear from two speakers—Jodi Gray and Kevin Parker—both recent recipients of the Courage to Come Back Award, about their lived experience and their involvement with Coast Mental Health.

A couple of weeks ago, some of our young adults put on an incredible rock concert at the Clubhouse! 🎶 Thanks to music therapy with Min and weeks of practice, both alone and together, they came together to play in front of a full room of peers. Having a common goal to work towards brought the group together and increased morale. They've already started picking out tunes for the next edition. We're grateful to generous donors like Music Heals Charitable Foundation for making music therapy possible across many of our sites. #MusicTherapy #YesInMyBackyard #CommunityMentalHealth

Every weekday, young adults at our Clubhouse can participate in our Community Kitchen - they cook a meal that they then all eat together. They're learning skills they can take away to cook independently, while spending valuable time as a group. On the menu recently: berry scones, spanakopita, pierogies, sausage rolls, chicken and noodles, carbonara... 🤤 Drop us a comment below if you would like us to share any of the recipes. 👇 #CommnuityKitchen #CommunityMentalHealth #LifeSkills

Members from Coast's Resource Centre recently visited Cleveland Dam on the North Shore. Many said it was beautiful, while others were surprised it was only a 30 minute bus ride from Downtown. Outings like this can be life-affirming for people experiencing homelessness, precarious living situations and mental illness. Fresh air and a change of scenery can have huge benefits for all of us. Is there a nearby spot you think we should add to our outings list? Send us your recommendations! #CommunityMentalHealth #YesInMyBackyard #Outings #Northshore

Mental illness and addiction can change how your brain functions, making everyday tasks more difficult. For example, remembering an appointment, dealing with a delayed bus or managing emotions can become challenging. Thanks to the generosity of donors, Coast Mental Health has developed a unique-to-Coast Brain Training program. It incorporates a mix of Cognitive Remediation, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Brain Games, activities and more. Hundreds of clients across Coast are accessing the program every year, and seeing tangible results in their day to day lives. Over the coming weeks, our brain training team is sharing strategies that they teach to help people improve their day to day quality of life. First up: Timing and Priming. Do you have strategies that you currently use to help you function at your best? #BrainTraining #CommunityBasedMentalHealth #YesInMyBackyard
