About us
As you look through our current job openings, remember: the grass is greener at the City of Burlington. With approximately 890 full-time and 600 part-time employees, we focus on teamwork, collaboration and investing in our co-workers. It’s no wonder our employee turnover rate is less than 7 per cent (that’s good). The City of Burlington is an award winning city, filled with award winning staff. In fact, we put the “greater” in the GTA. We surveyed our staff and the top reasons why they chose to work/stay with the City of Burlington are the location/commute, the people, benefits and pension. Burlington is located between three major highways, has three GO train stations, public transit, bike paths and change and shower facilities at all main working locations. As public servants, our job is to provide excellent public service and good value for taxes. Our staff know this and are proud of the work they do, because as Canada’s best mid-sized city, we’re second to none. Our staff are dedicated, caring, professional and award winning. We have excellent benefits and pension as well as flexible work arrangements such as work from home, job sharing/rotations and a compressed work week. If you want to join a forward-thinking organization, apply today. Come for the job, stay for the career. We’ve got it all.

On September 30, I invite you to join me for the Walk for Reconciliation and Peace at Spencer Smith Park from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. This is an opportunity for us to walk together in reflection and solidarity with local Indigenous people as we confront the history and legacy of this day. If you are unable to attend, I encourage you to join one of these additional events taking place or take the time to learn more about Truth and Reconciliation by reading from the resources available. A full list of recommended books at the Burlington Public Library can be found at: https://lnkd.in/gw9ZU8V2 The City of Burlington stands firmly in its commitment to reconciliation with the Indigenous community and the acknowledgment of the painful truths in our shared history. September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, is a day for us to pause and honour the memory of the children who never returned from Canada’s residential schools and to recognize the deep scars borne by the Survivors who came home forever changed by the trauma they endured. For more information on Truth and Reconciliation Day, please visit www.orangeshirtday.org and www.nctr.ca #EveryChildMatters #truthandreconciliation #orangeshirtday #truthandreconciliationday

Today (Sept. 27), we raised the flag at Burlington City Hall to bring awareness to the Gift of Giving Back campaign. The Gift of Giving Back is making a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community. This campaign is an opportunity to inspire, support, educate and empower children through local minor athletic associations and school systems to give back to our community. It is one of the largest community food drives in Canada, and you can spot the iconic Blue Bags around the city.

In #BurlON, we understand that urban forests play a vital role in shaping our environment, economy, and future. Yesterday, in celebration of National Forest Week, the City of Burlington collaborated with Tree Green and Burlington Green to organize a successful tree planting event at Bromley Park. With the support of nearly 200 dedicated volunteers from local schools and businesses, we planted 250 native trees. This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of our staff, partners, and volunteers to reach our goal of planting 10,000 trees annually and achieving 35% canopy cover by 2060. We’re grateful for the hard work and collaboration of everyone involved, and look forward to continuing to engage the community in initiatives like this one. For future opportunities to participate in tree planting initiatives, subscribe to: https://lnkd.in/g9PRcXGN.

Today, we raised the flag at City Hall to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day. French is one of the two official languages of Canada and has been spoken in Ontario since the 17th century. Sept. 25 is the day that Franco-Ontarians celebrate their language and heritage and also take pride in their collective accomplishments. We are proud to recognize the contributions and importance of the Francophone community of Ontario to the social, economic and political life of the province. Thank you to Mayor Marianne Meed Ward (C.Dir.) and staff and students from l’École élémentaire Renaissance and l’École élémentaire catholique Saint-Philippe for attending and showing your support.
