In 2023, the British Columbia Technical and Research Committee on Reclamation honoured Centerra and Chu Cho Environmental with its 46th Annual Mine Reclamation Award in the Metal Mine Category. This award recognizes the ongoing research into innovative techniques to help achieve eventual #MineReclamation and land use objectives at the Mount Milligan mine. It acknowledges our dedication to enhancing land capability through strategic initiatives such as the collection, propagation, and planting of native seedlings. What makes this achievement even more special is our alignment with the cultural values of First Nations people. By incorporating the knowledge of Elders, the program identifies target species suitable for specific site conditions, ensuring a holistic approach to mine reclamation. This award shines a spotlight on Centerra's commitment to responsible mine reclamation practices, emphasizing sustainability, cultural integration, and adaptability. In 2023, central banks added 1,037 tonnes of gold – the second highest annual purchase in history – following a record high of 1,082 tonnes in 2022. Gold continues to be viewed favorably by central banks as a reserve asset. According to the 2024 Central Bank Gold Reserves survey by the #WorldGoldCouncil, 29% of central banks respondents intend to increase their gold reserves in the next twelve months, the highest level observed since the survey began in 2018. According to the #WorldGoldCouncil, around 212,582 tonnes of gold has been mined throughout history, of which around two-thirds have been mined since 1950. Almost all of that gold is still around because the metal is virtually indestructible. If every single ounce of this gold were placed next to each other, the resulting cube of pure gold would only measure around 22 metres (73 feet) on each side. 45.4% of that gold is currently jewelry, 22.3% is in bars, coins, and gold backed ETFs, 17.3% is held in central banks, and 15.0% is in other forms.
