About us

Who We Are The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) spans both municipal and rural boundaries to deliver services to wide areas with common needs. The services offered by the regional district are varied, and include services like fire protection, recreation, library, waste management and utility systems. Incorporation The CRD is a regional government that functions independently of the provincial government. It was incorporated in 1968. The CRD consists of 12 electoral areas and four incorporated member municipalities, including Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, and Wells. The Cariboo Regional District presently serves an estimated population of just over 60,000 residents, based on the 2011 population census. Location Located in the BC Central Interior, the Cariboo Regional District straddles Highway 97 from 70 Mile in the south to five kilometres south of Hixon in the north, from the Cariboo Mountains in the east to the Coastal Mountains in the west. The region covers an area of 80,262 square kilometres. Governance A Board of Directors formed by 12 Electoral Area Directors and four Municipal Directors governs the Cariboo Regional District. The Electoral Area Directors are elected directly by area voters and Municipal Directors are appointed by their Council. All directors serve for a four year term. Every year, the Board of Directors selects its own Chair, and appoints members to sit on committees that deal with various regional concerns. The Board of Directors has the responsibility to act in one clear voice for the corporate interests of all residents of the Cariboo Regional District. The Board must also respond to the needs of the many different constituencies within the Regional District, determine the appropriate tax consequences for delivering needed services, and communicate with taxpayers on what services will be provided and how they will be delivered.

  • We want your feedback on our 2024-2028 financial plan! This budget supports the delivery of solid waste management, recreation, fire protection, and utility services across the Cariboo. 📊 A balance of revenue, expenses, and transfers between funds results in a total $69.75 million budget for 2024. ⬆ This is $794,302 higher than 2023’s budget. 💲 $32.73 million is from taxation, an increase of $2.9 million. Before we can adopt our budget, we first need your feedback. We have 122 service budgets, and each service budget needs to balance out – the money coming in must cover what's going out. This year, we're trying something different, and breaking down the proposed tax rates for each of these services for each electoral area. You can find copies of these on our website as well! If there's any extra cash or plans to dip into savings, we also include that in the budget. (In other words, we're not actually spending $69.75 million - $19.8 million represents how much in savings we expect to have at year end). You can participate and provide feedback on the budget by: - Reviewing the CRD’s budgets, business plans, and decisions made so far at www.cariboord.ca/budget - Tell us what you think at www.cariboord.ca/fp-survey For more information, check out our news release at:

It includes strategies for establishing diversion and reuse centres, expanding access to recycling, rural site modifications, and landfill disposal bans.
