🌿 Meet the Elateriospermum tapos in Sumatra’s Leuser Ecosystem🌳 Besides its incredible name, Elateriospermum tapos can grow up to 263 ft tall and its diameter can measure up to 184 ft! 🤯 The seed extract is commonly used by local communities as a remedy for chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. 🌱 The island of Sumatra is a treasure trove of biodiversity, from lowland to mountain forests 🌳🐾 However, in just 70 years, Sumatra's once-vast rainforests have shrunk to a few isolated remnants due to deforestation. The Leuser Ecosystem is the biggest and most vital of these remaining areas. However, 58% of the Leuser remains unprotected and more needs to be done to create a conservation economy that allows the rainforest and local communities to thrive. Let's appreciate and protect these unique places and species that add so much richness to our natural world! 💚
