Can historical examples of technological innovation and/or energy transitions teach us how to, or how not to manage the implementation of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) in an equitable manner? This project will examine either the history of hydrogen as a fuel and what has hampered implementation OR the transitions from fossil fuels to renewables in the past and how either might inform CDR uptake and use. This Post Doctoral Fellowship is truly transdisciplinary and will be supervised by esteemed Energy Historian Petra Dolata. Please apply through the link in the post or as an email to [email protected] . You must have a PhD in History or related fields to be considered. Please read the qualification criteria prior to applying. https://lnkd.in/gZeMQ6Ku

Are you interested in Direct Air Capture? The NCS C project is happy to invite you to its next webinar on Carbon Dioxide Removal. This webinar is an extended edition, consisting of presentations from panelists and panel discussions. You can find more information about the webinars and sign-up for the event (here: https://lnkd.in/dNCd4qVp) and and the webinar series (set as a newsletter on our website here: https://lnkd.in/dmwYjWaB) Removing CO2 from the atmosphere is expected to play a significant role in reaching net-zero and compensating for a potential overshoot in our remaining carbon budget to achieve the Paris Agreement. While many have suggested that the cost of DAC could fall below 100 $/t, a recent study from ETH Zurich (Sievert et al., 2024: https://lnkd.in/d3iR6EeH) suggests that these costs are likely to stay above, at least, 200 $/t even when reaching the gigaton scale. This study has sparked much debate in the direct air capture, carbon dioxide removal, and greenhouse gases mitigation communities. We thus take the opportunity of this study to gather experts in the direct air capture and carbon dioxide removal landscape, investment analysts, policy analysts, etc. to take an updated discussion on both the costs of DAC and its role in achieving the climate targets. Join us for this very interesting discussion on the cost and role of Direct Air Capture with Katrin S. (ETH Zürich), Prof. Andrea Ramirez (Delft University of Technology), Sally Homsy (National Energy Technology Laboratory), Lisa Mangertseder (Carbon Removal Partners), Mathilde Fajardy (International Energy Agency (IEA)), Prof. Matteo Gazzani (Utrecht University), Robert Höglund (Marginal Carbon AB), and Simon Roussanaly (SINTEF Energy Research) Stefania Osk Gardarsdottir, Mona Mølnvik, Nils Røkke, Nicola Marsh, Kristin Jordal, Rahul Anantharaman, Anne Steenstrup-Duch, Jessica Scott, Kjartan Hovde, Chiara Caccamo, Francesco Finotti, Aage Stangeland, Finn Eriksson, Shareq Mohd Nazir, NCCS: Norwegian CCS Research Centre, Project ACCSESS, LINCCS, Repair-eu, TrANsMIT
