Canadian Bar Association reposted this
The Immigration Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association (the CBA Section) acknowledges today’s announcement by the Government of Canada regarding the reduction in immigration levels for 2025-2027. We recognize the complexities of managing immigration in the context of broader economic considerations, particularly in relation to housing affordability and government services. The CBA Section’s primary concern with today’s announcement lies with those who are already in Canada and who, due to this decision, may face uncertainty about their ability to remain. The CBA Section calls for accessible, fair, secure and flexible pathways for temporary residents who are already contributing to Canada’s economy and communities. We urge the government to remain flexible in the implementation of the measures announced today and to respond to evolving needs, in particular the needs of existing temporary residents. Canada has shown a capacity to adjust to unforeseen challenges, and we trust that this adaptability will continue. The CBA Section is committed to working constructively with the government to mitigate any negative impacts of these measures and to find solutions that ensure fairness and stability for individuals currently in Canada. We believe that flexibility, compassion, and collaboration will remain key to maintaining Canada’s reputation as a welcoming, inclusive country. Kamaljit K.
