October 6th - 12th is Mental Illness Awareness Week. We know that everyone deserves better mental health care. This week you can double your impact and help CAMH make that a reality. Donations made to CAMH Foundation from October 6 to October 12, 2024 will be matched generously by EY until their gift of $25,000 is reached. That means your gift will go twice as far in ensuring everyone can get the help they need, as soon as they need it, no matter where they are. This summer, Jason Kloss has continued to honour his late grandfather who had made the monumental decision to swim across Lake Huron over 30 years ago, by swimming across another Great Lake: the cold Lake Ontario. After coping with the death of his grandfather and then losing his friend to suicide, Jason wanted to focus on his own mental health and be a part of changing the future of mental healthcare for all, including his daughter. He founded Kloss2Cross to swim towards this better future. This incredible long distance swim included ‘wave dedications’ where he dedicated 1km legs of his swim in honour of supporters’ loved ones. Jason has created ripples of impact, surpassing his goal in raising more than $76,000 for CAMH! We are grateful to Jason for his unwavering efforts and to all those who donated to Kloss2Cross to help support mental health and dementia research – thank you! Your support is helping us build better mental healthcare for everyone. A future where no one is left behind. Last week, the CAMH Foundation hosted an exclusive womenmind™ community event at @archeotoronto. Dr. Liisa Galea, Treliving Family Chair in Women’s Mental Health, CAMH and her team of researchers from the Galea Lab showcased their groundbreaking work, highlighting the incredible work being done on women’s mental health research at CAMH. We heard from womenmind researchers who are investigating timely issues – such as the use of Ozempic to reverse memory loss, the mental health risks of hormonal contraceptives in adolescents and the use of biological signatures to reverse susceptibility of postpartum depression. Together, the womenmind community is fostering a more inclusive space, empowering researchers to pursue their passions and pushing the boundaries of women’s mental health research. A heartfelt thank you to our researchers and womenmind community for their ongoing support and participation. Together, we are creating a future where women have hope for better mental health treatment and outcomes—where no one is left behind.
