Last week, we hosted Const. Claire Langley and First-Class Const. Jevan Hayward, two police officers from Western Australia Police. This visit is an opportunity for both teams to exchange valuable insights, share experiences, and strengthen our commitment to community safety. This collaboration not only enhances our skills but also fosters a global network of law enforcement professionals dedicated to making our communities safer. #communitysafety

211 Calgary call-takers are highly-trained professionals who are able to help support callers experiencing non-emergency mental health or addiction crises by directing them to needed resources. They act as an extra set of hands on the Calgary 911 floor and help ensure Calgarians receive appropriate supports. This shift from a traditional response of sending law enforcement to help with non-emergency crisis is a change that addresses the causes of crises callers are experiencing. 🌐 Learn more about the Calgary 911/211 Calgary co-location initiative, visit: https://lnkd.in/gvBaW7i3. 🐕 A few weeks ago, Metro Vancouver Transit Police explosive detection police service dog (PSD) Harnett, was visiting Calgary as a participant in the Canadian Police Canine Association trials, an annual event where law enforcement canine teams across the country meet to test their skills. PSD Harnett, a two-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, is named in honour of Sergeant Andrew Harnett of the Calgary Police Service, who was killed in the line of duty on New Year’s Eve in 2020. PSD Harnett is pictured here in front of Sgt. Harnett’s memorial located in the city’s northeast, in District 5, where Sgt. Harnett worked.

We recognize that other organizations are better suited to provide supports to individuals experiencing non-emergency mental health or addiction-related crisis. In order to provide the right resource, to the right person, at the right time, we have partnered with community agencies to ensure all Calgarians receive fair and equitable supports. By diverting non-emergency crisis calls to community partners, the Service can focus on community issues that are criminal in nature, while people experiencing crises can receive the supports they need. 🌐 How the Service is working to ensure Calgarians in crisis receive fair and equitable service: https://lnkd.in/gvBaW7i3
