ARTERNAL just launched the first of its kind interview series, hosted by Sean Green (Founder, ARTERNAL) and featuring the art world's most prominent collectors. Titled ‘Step inside the Art World’, episode #1 features Dr. Joy Simmons in which she reminisces about her early influences and the dynamic changes in the Los Angeles art scene. Being the “only one” in the room is a common experience amongst #UnderrepresentedFounders. It is the feeling which stems amongst people from underserved backgrounds when they find themselves being the only person “like them” in the company, meeting, conference, or other professional/public setting. Burdened by an ‘impostor syndrome’, very often this puts them at a disadvantage with their audience who are unable to empathize with them or understand the problem they are trying to solve. But, there is a way to turn this from a disadvantage into an advantage. In his article for the Fast Company, Porter Braswell (Founder & CEO, 2045 Studio) shares how #UnderestimatedFounders can transition from feeling separated by being “the only” to positioning themselves into an expert voice filling a vast knowledge and experience gap, offering solutions to problems homogenous groups fail to capitalize on due to their lack of understanding. This article is for all underrepresented founders and tech professionals feeling lonely in their career journey. “Old school meets new school.” In our latest #WeekendWatch, Paul A. Campbell, CEO & Co-Founder of Moneta Health, sums up the core of his #HealthTech venture in his interview with Logan Plaster (StartUp Health). By using the traditional landlines, Moneta has created easy access to care for elders with cognitive impairment. Through seamless integration of their AI health assistant with their human therapist, Moneta has been able to create a sense of connection for elderly patients with cognitive impairment, radically improving the standard of care they receive. That’s just one brilliant aspect of their go-to-market strategy. Moneta Health operates in “neurology deserts”; areas with high patient demand but limited primary care and neurology capacity. They also made sure to build a product which qualified for Medicare reimbursement. These were amongst the many reasons we invested in them. The experience of the leadership team, clarity of thought, and a sound business model made them extremely #VentureBackable.
