BEworks is thrilled to have contributed a chapter in ‘What Works, What Doesn’t (and When)’ showcasing our work to reduce fare evasion in Santiago, Chile. This project highlights the importance of testing different interventions to ensure that investments in solutions are aligned to what works and demonstrates the effectiveness of behavioral approaches in combatting fare evasion, a global and pernicious problem. More broadly, this volume, and the other books in the BI Org book series, are essential reading for anyone seeking to apply behavioral science to thorny challenges across a range of sectors, and BEworks is grateful to BEAR - Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman for the opportunity to share our cases, approach, and philosophy within this series. Be sure to read them all! #behavioralscience #behavioraleconomics #mobility Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Metrolinx TransLink Metropolitan Transportation Authority Road & Transport Authority - RTA Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) San Francisco County Transportation Authority Metropolitan Transit Commission (Inc) Chicago Transit Authority
In Chapter 10 of “What Works, What Doesn’t (and When)”, the authors explain how they effectively (and less effectively) reduced fare evasion in Santiago, Chile. At our recent event Bridging the Human-AI gap: the Indispensable Role of Behavioural Science, we spent the evening discussing the necessity for AI to be built with and for humans. It was a privilege to host two engaging panel discussions on this topic, led by Jennifer Weeks, Ph.D. and Nathaniel Barr. Our first panel featured Ron Norris (Director of Innovation at Georgia Pacific) and Rajib Saha (Co-founder and CEO of parabole.ai). It focused on the role of human behaviour in causal AI. We discussed the components of causal AI – knowledge, data and causality, how causal AI differs from traditional machine learning, and what types of challenges we can solve with causal AI. Our second panel featured Dr. Melaina T Vinski, MSc, PhD (Associate Client Partner of Behavioural Science and AI and Analytics at IBM) and Dr. Jason Plaks (Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto). We learned about two different perspectives – academic and industry - on the role of behavioural science in AI adoption. We discussed how AI is changing the way organizations are run, public attitude towards different types of AI, and how behavioural science can predict human adoption of AI. #AIAdoption #BehaviouralScience #AITransformation #Innovation #TechAdoption #CausalAI #AIPredictors

Earlier this week, BEworks' Wardah M. took to the C2 stage with Timothy Caulfield, acclaim professor of Law at University of Alberta, Faculty of Law and Jared Genser, General Counsel for The Neurorights Foundation and Perseus Strategies to discuss the advancements in neurotech, the utopian and dystopian future possibilities that stand before us, and the legal protections that need to be put in place for people using such technologies. Let us know what you think. Do you intend to use #neurotech? Do you believe the ability to download our thoughts and dreams is a near-term possibility? How should policy and product be designed to protect consumer rights?
Day 3 of #C2MTL24 ended on a high note! We expanded our minds with insightful AI sessions from member companies Sid Lee, BEworks, and SYLVAIN and left this year’s C2MTL feeling inspired. Learn more about the kyu Collective at http://kyu.com and check out our Day 3 insights below 👇🏻 ✨ Sid Lee started the morning by asking us to reframe our perspective on AI and consider “atypical intelligence.” A panel of creative visionaries showed us why expanding our definition of intelligence is so valuable — and why it’s most important to lead with empathy when fostering neurodiversity. 🧠 BEworks CEO Wardah M. brought us a mind-blowing conversation on the future (and present) of neurotech. Jared Genser (General Counsel, The Neurorights Foundation) shared the “thought-to-text” and medical breakthroughs that will be possible in the next five years. Privacy concerns abound but, he argued, ”Neurotechnologies are going to be extraordinarily productive for society and for the world." 🤖 When it comes to AI, are we worrying about the right things? Neil Patel (NP Digital) pointed out that while AI will certainly replace some jobs, we may spend more time thinking about strategy and concept. Hugging Face’s Dr. Sasha Luccioni reminded us generative AI shouldn’t be used for everything and dropped the truth bomb that, “there’s a huge gender imbalance in AI…consent is rarely on the table.” 🤔Aaron L. Powers (SYLVAIN) and The New Yorker’s Andrew Marantz talked doomers and tech enthusiasts and drew parallels between dealing with AI and the atomic bomb. Still, there's plenty of hope to be found in our AI-filled future. “I allow myself to turn off the fear for a moment and say, what do I want to build, go and ride that wave…that’s the heart of creative work,” said Powers. As we bid adieu to #C2MTL24, we’re leaving the Grand Quay with new ways of thinking and exciting connections, all made possible by our member company, C2. Au revoir until 2025!
