🏆 We're thrilled to announce that our CABN Vision Plan has been named a finalist in the prestigious World Architecture Festival's Future Masterplanning category and recognized as a winner of the #WAFX Values and Ethics Award! 🏆 Led by Jamie Miller and B H Biomimicry, we worked with CABN to integrate their sustainable technology with sustainable planning methodologies. The CABN Vision Plan is rooted in our "Living Story" approach, which fosters a deep connection to the land. By understanding the land's needs and characteristics, we're designing a development that harmonizes with nature while addressing the region's growing housing demand. The CABN Vision Plan is built on two core principles. First, it demonstrates how to create sustainable and affordable housing by integrating with the natural landscape. Second, it showcases the power of innovative design and technology to build resilient communities. We envision the CABN Vision Plan as a blueprint for redefining urban development, where sustainability is at the heart of the design process. What does regenerative development look like? With our friends at CABN, we sought to answer this question by using our unique Living Story site design to make a community of sustainable homes that fit and contribute to their place. We are very grateful to hear that this approach has struck a chord with the World Architecture Festival, where we have been shortlisted for the WAF Future Project in Masterplanning. Very proud of our entry getting 2nd place in the Buildner ‘Under the Bridge’ international design competition. The competition provided a great opportunity to give some thought to the affordable housing crisis in our hometown of Toronto. The design team reimagined the new stretch of the rerouted Gardiner expressway as being encapsulated within a modular structure. The elevated highway is surrounded by and buried within a community of affordable housing units, amenity, and green spaces. The modular geometry is informed by the structural shape of the very box girders used to construct elevated highways. The design was also inspired by the hexagonal geometry of bee hives. We believe that this centrally located stretch of elevated infrastructure in Toronto can be leveraged to do more than benefit commuters. Read more about our competition entry here: https://lnkd.in/gRZPKV-K Shout out to the talented B H core design team Annie Wang, Kurin-Qianhui Wang, Lyric Barnik, Sparsh Ghandi, Brian Tien, and Ogulnabat Jumayeva for pulling together the design over pizza lunches, evenings, and weekends, outside of full time project obligations. We are also grateful for the cool opportunity to collaborate with the sister companies within the global SJ group. We enjoyed bouncing conceptual ideas during virtual pinups with the SJ Global Design Council, and appreciated the informed feedback and sketches from Robert Bird Group Structural Engineers.

Congratulations on our incredible design team’s win at the Under Bridge Competition with a concept that reimages Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway. We believe design thinking, innovation, and human ingenuity are the keys to success. TheHiveWay utilizes biomimicry with modular hexagon-shaped housing units, creating a sustainable and innovative housing solution right in the heart of the city. This award-winning concept is the product of a powerhouse team - urban planners, architects, engineers, sustainability experts, and interior designers from Surbana Jurong Group's member companies (Atelier Ten, B H, CHIL Interior Design, Robert Bird Group, and SAA Architects Pte Ltd). How do we create a cross-functional environment for our talented teams to thrive, innovate, and turn bold ideas into reality?   With the formation of our Architecture & Design Council of Excellence, I’m very proud that recently the Council's efforts earned us second place in the prestigious International Architecture Ideas Competition – Under Bridge – Affordable Housing Series by Architecture Competitions // Buildner, that challenged our rising stars to find human-centered design solutions that reinvigorate urban spaces.   The winning concept, The HiveWay, proposes to transform a 2-km stretch of Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway by integrating housing directly with the infrastructure using biomimicry through modular hexagon shaped housing units.   This remarkable design emerged from a transdisciplinary collaboration among urban planners, architects, engineers, sustainability experts, and interior designers from Surbana Jurong Group’s member companies, including Atelier Ten, B H Architects, CHIL Interior Design, Robert Bird Group, and SAA Architects Pte Ltd.   Congratulations to the entire project team for their extraordinary work and passion.   Together, we are shaping the future of design and engineering, pushing boundaries, and creating sustainable and regenerative solutions.

🌈 Happy Pride! 🌈 Pride Month is about more than just rainbows and glitter (although we had plenty of that too!). It's about celebrating the LGBTQ community and fostering a workplace where everyone feels welcome to be themselves. Our incredible team came out in force to celebrate with a showstopping performance from Toronto's drag royalty, Sofonda! The energy was electric, the outfits were fierce, and the dance moves were undeniable. We're all about love, laughter, and celebrating the beautiful diversity that makes us who we are.   We stand with the LGBTQ community and are committed to fostering a workplace that celebrates love, diversity, and being true to yourself! See more of Sofonda! https://lnkd.in/g8-N8zNY
