Updates

  • One of our large corporate partners and major supporters shared some good news this week. A business unit in their org selected AO as their charity of choice from a long list of partnerships across Canada! They made an extra (and unexpected) donation. Now, 3 more Indigenous individuals will have the opportunity to use our AONest software system to improve their mental health, build emotional well-being and resilience, and start to heal. This donation enables positive future outcomes. We are so incredibly grateful for partnerships like these that make a real difference in the lives of so many.   To learn more about AONest, please follow our new LinkedIn Company Page: https://lnkd.in/gHjHVQuA

  • It warms our hearts to hear good news from our program participants.   A caregiver who loves our tutoring & sports program recently shared this note about her family’s experience: “They were able to get together with their siblings every Thursday night to learn together, laugh together, and play together… Our kids have benefited so very much thanks to you. The sports hour can’t be beat – they all loved it.”   One of the kids in her care spent years in other tutoring programs without seeing any results. She joined AO’s tutoring & sports program this year and recently got straight As.   Another of her kids had a very short attention span and had been labelled “non-verbal”. After working through our program, the child is now talking like his peers, he no longer requires OT, and his teachers have witnessed an astounding improvement in his attention span. His latest report card was “excellent”. His caregiver attributed these great differences to our program.   Tutoring & sports has wrapped up for the summer and will start up again in September. It’s open to self-identifying First Nations, Inuit, or Métis youth from kindergarten to grade 12. For more details, please visit https://lnkd.in/g72kuSRM.

  • We are looking for volunteers to help out at our farm throughout July. Located in Breslau Ontario, our Eminidowang Kiitigan – Spirit Garden for Everyone – is the perfect place for your workplace volunteer group to enjoy the outdoors, bond as a team, and give back to the community. If you have a group of 10-60 people that can spare a day to help weed our fields, we would appreciate hearing from you! Please fill out the form at https://lnkd.in/gaj4gnsT.

  • Are you looking for a unique way to give back? Two interesting organizations now make it easy to support AO in new and different ways.   We have an online wish list – hosted by Kits for a Cause – where you can purchase items like back-to-school kits and hygiene bundles for the families we support. Simply visit https://lnkd.in/gu7km2cu and select the item(s) you would like to donate. Kits for a Cause does all the work and provides the items to us to distribute. They’ll even send you a tax receipt. Easy-peasy and much appreciated! You can also donate a car, truck, RV, boat, or motorcycle and through Donate a Car Canada which accepts vehicle donations on AO’s behalf. Free towing is provided in most areas across Canada, or you can drop off your vehicle to maximize your donation. When you donate your vehicle to AO through Donate A Car Canada, it will either be recycled or sold at auction (depending on its condition, age and location). After your vehicle donation is complete, you will receive a tax receipt and we will put your gift to good use. Visit https://lnkd.in/gHbnFvS8. Of course, we also accept your generous financial donations at www.aocan.org/donate 😊

  • Today’s the day! For National Indigenous Peoples Day, we’re making it super easy to give the gift of mental health to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. Indigenous are disproportionately affected by mental health challenges compared with non-Indigenous Canadians*. Our AONest software system helps people navigate their mental health concerns and build emotional well-being independently. For just $150, you can give a free copy of AONest to an individual who lives on a First Nations reserve and/or works with a social service agency and/or participates in our Spirit Bundle program.  You can help someone improve their mental health and learn the life skills they need to move out of agency support and into employment instead. https://aocan.org/donate/  * https://lnkd.in/gxzDN7FV

  • Extra, extra – read all about it! GuelphToday.com featured us in this story: Anishnabeg Outreach creates mental health software to heal trauma. https://lnkd.in/gunEb7ax   Like the reporter says, we hope to make our AONest software system available in every city and reserve across Canada, but we need financial support to make our dream a reality. If you’d like to help, please visit www.aocan.org/donate.

  • Suicide rates for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis are 3X the national average ** If you're looking for a meaningful way to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Friday, please consider giving the gift of mental health to someone who needs it.  The AONest software system can help individuals navigate their mental health concerns and build emotional resilience and well-being independently. We want to give free copies of AONest to Indigenous individuals and others so we are building a wait list of people who live on First Nations reserves and/or work with social service agencies and/or participate in our Spirit Bundle program. A donation of $150 will take someone off the wait list. Please give the gift of mental health and help someone learn life skills so they can move out of agency support and into employment instead. https://aocan.org/donate/  ** https://lnkd.in/g-3eYKZX
