Today the Government of Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada | Innovation, Sciences et Développement économique Canada announced the creation of the Canadian AI Safety Institute (CAISI), which will include the CAISI Research Program at CIFAR. This new research program will build an interdisciplinary research community dedicated to understanding AI safety and how to mitigate the risks of this evolving technology. BIG news! CIFAR announces AI Safety Research Program as part of the newly launched Canadian AI Safety Institute by the Government of Canada. The CIFAR-led program will partner with the National AI Institutes, Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), Mila - Institut québécois d'intelligence artificielle, and Vector Institute, to take a multidisciplinary approach to address the short and long-term risks of AI systems. The program will advance the work already started in areas such as AI safety and the evaluation of advanced AI models, and ensure the safe adoption of AI in high-risk applications and privacy in AI systems. “The CAISI Research Program leverages Canada’s leadership in AI advancement. Congratulations to Russ Greiner, Canada CIFAR AI Chair and Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) Fellow, who has received the Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering from The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
