Celadon University (Japanese: タマムシ大学 Tamamushi University) is a university located in Celadon City. Celadon University is a special university which only children of primary school age can attend.
From March 1998 to February 1999, Shogakukan Learning Magazines ran a promotional campaign in which readers could enroll in the fictional university, and complete various exams to receive prizes. The university's crest—as shown in the commemorative items—consists of a Magikarp, Gyarados, and the Kanji 学 gaku (meaning "to learn").
In the games
Celadon University does not appear in the games.
During the Tamamushi University campaign, 30 players were awarded a special Magikarp that knows Dragon Rage, based on their performance in the Professor Exam.
In animation
Celadon University is referred to several times in Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver. In Chikorita's Big Upset, Nurse Joy mentioned that she studied a degree in Pokémon psychology at Celadon University. In Fossil Fools, it was revealed that Professor Oak used to teach there, and Foster was one of his top students.
In the manga
Following the Magikarp giveaway, the University has appeared in two manga series: Pokémon: Yeah! I Got Pokémon! and Pokémon Adventures. In both manga, the appearance of the building is closely based on the artwork from the Student ID Card and the Magikarp with Dragon Rage is referenced in some way.
Pokémon Adventures
Yellow arc
Celadon University was first mentioned in Sea Sea Seadra, when Bill said he'd be taking his report on Viridian Forest's ecology there and proposing it to the university once it was finished.
Celadon University made its physical debut in Whacked by Marowak, where Erika was seen giving a lecture about the Dragon Rage Magikarp. She was offered a full-time job at the university by Professor Matsumoto, but she declined because of her Gym Leader duties.
Pokémon: Yeah! I Got Pokémon!
Shu visited Celadon University in The Challenge at Celadon University!. To enter the university building, one must answer an exam question.
The university has a large campus, consisting of a swimming pool, Chemical Research Laboratory, Pokémon Pharmaceutical Faculty, Pokémon Art faculty, a Pokémon Environmental Study Faculty, and the University Hospital, where Shu saved a Magikarp that knew Dragon Rage from a Machamp. A hospital worker awarded him with a university crest badge for his deed.
