The 2021-23 Standard format of the Pokémon Trading Card Game is the Standard format that was used (alongside the Expanded format) for Play! Pokémon organised play and in most sanctioned tournaments worldwide between September 10, 2021 and April 13, 2023. It is also used in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online and Pokémon TCG Live. This was the final rotation to rotate out cards based on what expansion they belonged to, future rotations would rotate cards out based on the regulation mark on the cards.
This is the final Standard format supported in Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. The client was not updated for cards released in Scarlet & Violet and later sets, nor was the errata separating Pokémon Tools from Items implemented.
This rotation rotated out all the sets from the Sun and Moon era. Since all Sword and Shield era cards were printed with a regulation mark of or higher, and Sun and Moon era cards weren't printed with any Regulation mark by TPCi, it effectively meant that regulation marks could now be used to verify the legality of a card. Any card with a Regulation mark of or higher is legal in this standard format, while any card lacking a regulation mark is not.
Play period
The 2021-23 Standard format was announced on April 21, 2021, rotating out the remaining Sun and Moon era sets from Team Up to Cosmic Eclipse.
- Worldwide: September 10, 2021 - April 13, 2023
Rule changes
All remaining Sun and Moon era cards are rotated out. Sword and Shield era cards with a , , or , or later regulation mark remain legal.
With the removal of all Sun and Moon era cards from the standard format, and the phasing out of the Fairy type in the Sword and Shield era, basic Fairy Energy is no longer legal in the standard format. No Fairy type Pokémon cards are legal anymore either.
