Job Purpose and Overview
The Corporate Sr. Environmental Engineer will be responsible for providing global support to manufacturing and distribution sites specific to the environmental compliance and protection of the employees, community, and surroundings while balancing business risks and requirements. This position will play a role in supporting the Risk Management Plan (RMP) in conjunction with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, as well as site and/or capital project support. As a member of the corporate EHS&S Team, the position plays a critical role in engaging and incorporating environmental stewardship in the overall EHSS culture. This position serves as a technical and proficient subject matter expert to reduce risk and drive continuous improvements for Dawn Foods, NA.
This is a remote role with travel required up to 40% of the time. We prefer candidates located in Eastern or Central time zones.
What will you do as a Sr. Environmental Engineer at Dawn Foods?

  • Partner with facilities and corporate EHS to obtain data to further support efforts in the implementation of EHS and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies.
  • Assist leadership and facilities in understanding and complying with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules, and codes within the US, and Canada.
  • Develop and implement environmental policies, procedures, standards, and training.
  • Measure the effectiveness of environmental program implementation and provide updates to leadership and determine the best path forward in achieving Zero Waste.
  • Partner to develop strategies for energy conservation, waste reduction, and recourse management.
  • Conduct periodic environmental audits of manufacturing and distribution facilities to identify potential compliance risks and recommend corrective actions. Implement initiatives designed to identify, evaluate, and control environmental-related risks using a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on existing or emerging local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects and operations, while partnering and collaborating with various stockholders within the organization.
  • Collaborates with engineering and operations teams to mitigate environmental impact and install equipment in support of manufacturing operations (e.g. air pollution control devices).
  • Lead or facilitate incident investigations, including determination of root causes and development of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Provide oversight and management of site Environmental program-related action items.
  • Assist site EHS Managers and Engineering with complex environmental permitting projects and calculations (e.g., air emission tracking sheets, discharge by volume/flow, Tier II/EPCRA Reporting).
  • Identify and implement key performance metrics, with a focus on leading indicators.
  • Identify and help interpret current and potential EHS regulatory and company requirements that will affect the facility.
  • Partner with facilities to create/maintain EHS policies, systems, and processes that meet or exceed regulatory and corporate requirements with a focus on multimedia environmental considerations.
  • Partner with corporate EHS&S, in the development of standardized policies, processes, and practices, which can be implemented
  • Partner in building out the NA vision/strategy and long-term strategic initiatives which will serve as the Global footprint for the entire organization.


Leadership, Communication, & Development

  • Be a leader in the corporate EHS culture by demonstrating, promoting, and developing processes, practices, and activities that advance and sustain Dawn's EHS culture.
  • Be an educator and mentor for all facility EHS and Engineering partners to empower and engage them in creating and sustaining Dawn's EHS culture.
  • Help remove barriers for facility personnel in meeting EHS expectations.
  • Promote and demonstrate the value of continuous improvement of EHS performance.
  • Promotes and adheres to all EHS regulations and company policies.
  • Remains current in practice areas through participation in internal and external professional development opportunities.


EHSS Team

  • Actively participate and engage as a member of the corporate EHS&S team, collaborate, and contribute to the overall improvement of Dawn's corporate EHS&S program.
  • Actively participate in inter-company activities as requested.


Internal Controls

  • Understands and complies with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts.
  • Identifies and brings to the attention of department management internal controls


What Does It Take to be a Sr. Environmental Engineer at Dawn Foods?
Below are the minimum qualifications to be a fit for this job.

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or 12 years of equivalent environmental engineering/science with related technical and regulatory experience in the Food and Beverage/Consumer Goods industry in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 7 years (10 years preferred) of environmental experience in food/consumer goods manufacturing, consulting, or regulatory roles.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of environmental regulations, application of pollution abatement processes, equipment, and procedures.
  • Working understanding of environmental equipment operations, safety systems, and environmental metrics.
  • Experience with electronic tools/systems, simulation software, and tracking mechanisms.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and drive results with personnel in other departments/functions.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; including the ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks, and projects with competing demands across multiple locations.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence culture across Dawn NA, and Canada.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental standards, codes, regulations, and laws across multiple states.
  • Must be able to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Compensation Range:
$102,640-$169,350 Bonus
