Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.
Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.
The journey to space starts with the engines.
Ursa Major’s team moves fast and does a lot with little. The Engine Project Engineer is a leader who coordinates schedules, hardware, resources, and overall project progress to ensure our programmatic success. We are looking for the unique individual who thrives when creating order out of chaos, can excel as a technical subject matter expert, and can bring together complex technical and operational inputs into one cohesive program.
Responsibilities:
- Manages internal engine program coordination, from initial program plan definition through ultimate mission success.
- Owns the engine program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS). Responsible for pulling inputs from across the company and re-baselining as changes occur.
- Coordinates with owners throughout the business to consolidate program technical and operational objectives, while driving program progress and on-time delivery throughout the engine lifecycle.
- Coordinates with internal stakeholders to ensure timely production of engine hardware to support company schedules and deliverables.
- Leads internal status updates and milestone reviews. Responsible for presenting both programmatic and technical material.
- Collaborates with team members to write, review, and deliver technical deliverables. Includes systems engineering requirements, change requests, risk definitions and mitigation plans, nonconformance reports, and data reviews.
- Completes a 1 to 3 month onboarding technical training program and can step in to support the technical organization as needed in assembly, test operations, vehicle integration, process and procedure definition, and quality verification.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 2 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in complex environments such as aerospace or other highly technical programs
- Passion for creatively developing a program plan despite resource constraints and flexibility to adapt as inputs rapidly change
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment
Desired Experience:
- Strong understanding of aerospace industry standards and requirements
- Demonstrated success in complex program definition and management
- Liquid propellant rocket engine experience
- Prior experience as a project engineer or team lead in a production or manufacturing role, managing schedules and delegating tasks
- Technical expertise in manufacturing, design, test, analysis, or integration
- PMP Certification

What We Do
At Ursa Major, we are powering the future of aerospace. We see aerospace advancement as a technological imperative and we’re accelerating the industry as the leading source of world-class propulsion systems.
We meticulously design, craft, and test engines that are optimized to offer high performance, diverse capability, and unwavering reliability.
Why Work With Us
As much as we value talent, we know that it’s meaningless without the drive, humility, and hunger to work on a team. A team shares a common goal and obsesses about achieving it together. This requires leaving egos at the door and committing to do whatever’s required (within reason) to achieve mission success.
