2022 Person of the Year

Brittle Paper’s Literary Person of the Year award, now in its 8th year, recognizes an individual who has done outstanding work in advancing African literary culture and industry in the given year. The 2022 honor goes to Prof. Kwame Dawes for his work on building institutional and industry support for African poetry.

Tsitsi Dangarembga is the 2022 Brittle Paper Activist of the Year for her brave fight against injustice and her demand for government reform. She is an award-winning Zimbabwean novelist, playwright, filmmaker, and human rights activist.

Professor Pumla Dineo Gqola
Professor Pumla Dineo Gqola is Brittle Paper Academic of the Year her contributions to African literary culture and feminist scholarship.
