The latest collaboration between #LOTUF and Systemiq Ltd. highlights that a growing market for holistically “green” certified buildings does not necessarily translate into a meaningful market for low-carbon (i.e., 1.5°C-aligned) real estate. “Deep decarbonisation of buildings requires significant investment: $600bn annually from now to 2050.Regulation is ultimately needed to unlock this but has so far been slow to ramp up. In the near-term, therefore, decarbonisation must be driven by a clear demand signal for low-carbon buildings from lenders, tenants, investors (LPs) and fund managers (GPs), that is reflected in thirdparty valuations.” The paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the current market: ● Current ranking and benchmarking tools do not provide clarity on the carbon and energy performance of buildings and portfolios against energy use intensity, operational carbon, and embodied carbon goals. ● Many of these tools do not have targets consistent with 1.5°C pathways.   The keys to unlocking the low-carbon real estate market are: ● Transparency in the carbon and energy performance of buildings. ● Commonly agreed upon 1.5°C pathways.   Read more: Seeing is Believing: Unlocking the low-carbon real estate market  https://lnkd.in/e6mw8rxS #realestate #investors #decarbonisation #lowcarbon #GREEN #engagement
