🌳 Discover our new reforestation project in the North of Rio! This very promising project is one of the first examples of combining large-scale reforestation technology with the skills of local actors. To achieve the goal of 35% forest carbon absorption capacity by 2030 (IPCC), 8️⃣0️⃣ million hectares of new forests would need to be planted each year. However, only 8️⃣ million hectares are reforested annually (UN). To accelerate planting, MORFO’s drone technique must be supported by the knowledge and work of local populations. That's why @MORFO work with Instituto Terra de Preservação Ambiental - ITPA. In this 50-hectare project, 75% of the area is replanted by drones and 25% with the help of local populations who are already working there. ITPA provides MORFO with knowledge of the Mata Atlantica biome, access to a nursery for manual planting, and local workers to carry out the planting. This Brazilian organization has more than 20 years of experience in tree planting and has restored one million hectares of the degraded Atlantic forest. By planting seeds and restoring the ecosystem, this project helps regenerate this critical area that supplies 80% of Rio's water and 30% of its energy through the Guandu basin. #reforestation #forest #climatechange #climateaction #foret #reflorestamento #floresta #brasil #brazil #naturelovers #nature #RiodeJaneiro

🌍 The future of forests is NOW. We were at NY Climate Week 2024, and if there's one thing that became clear, it's that WE HAVE NO TIME TO LOSE. This year’s theme, "It's Time," couldn’t be more relevant. Brazil was one of the big stars of the week, and with COP30 in Belém approaching, the country has a unique opportunity to lead the global green revolution. Here are some key highlights that caught our attention: 🇧🇷 BRAZIL IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Brazil stood out with its goal to restore 12 million hectares by 2030. We are committed to accelerating this target with BIODIVERSITY. 🎧 NATURE IN FOCUS: At MORFO, we’re already ahead with our catalog of 300 seed species, creating RESILIENT ecosystems. 🌳 TREES AS TECHNOLOGY: "Trees are our best technology." They capture carbon, protect biodiversity, and strengthen water cycles. NY Climate Week sent a clear message: to tackle the climate crisis, large-scale RESTORATION with BIODIVERSITY is the way forward. At MORFO, we’re ready to lead this transformation with technology, commitment, and action. Let’s grow! #climateweek #reforestation #climateaction #biodiversity

🌼 Nature does so much for us. What have you done for her lately? It doesn’t even need to be said: nature is simply incredible. Without it, there’s no life. And today, in Brazil, we celebrate the greatness of nature. 🦋 Tropical forests, for example, cover only 6% of the Earth’s surface, BUT they house more than 80% of all known species of plants and animals! 🐜 Just one tree in the Amazon can be home to over 400 species of insects. And in a single hectare of tropical forest, you’ll find: - more than 2,500 species of plants - 400 vertebrates - and millions of insects. These are just a few facts that show how amazing nature truly is. Now tell us: what’s your favorite memory in nature? #natureday #environment #climateaction #tropicalforests

🪲🍀 A green bug for good luck? Kinda like that! Ever heard of Edessa rufomarginata? If not, maybe you know the famous stink bug! Yes, that's the one! This little one was spotted in one of our projects in French Guiana… And despite its funny name (and the smell when it feels threatened), it has its value to us: - It's a sign that the environment is becoming more complex and welcoming life. - The diversity and abundance of insects, like the stink bug, are indicators of environmental quality and forest health. Have you ever come across a stink bug? #forestrestoration #ecosystem #regeneration #climateaction

💙 Indigenous and Traditional Peoples are responsible for protecting 1/3 of the forests in Brazil. Valuing and protecting these communities is crucial for preserving the forest, regardless of the size of each group. Today, we’ll showcase some of the largest communities here in Brazil. However, it’s worth noting that there are about 272 recognized indigenous peoples in the country, each with its own language, culture, and history, representing a rich cultural diversity. The Yanomami, Guarani, and Tikuna are some of the largest of these groups. Have you heard of them? #localcommunities #tropicalforest #indigenouscommunities #climateaction

🌡️ A river at 100°C? Sounds like a legend, but it’s real! Today, you’re going to discover Shanay-Timpishka, the mysterious "Boiling River" in the Amazon. 📍 LOCATION: This unique river is in the Peruvian Amazon, stretching for about 6 kilometers. Its width varies along the way. ✨ LEGEND: For centuries, indigenous communities told stories of a river so hot it could cook anything. To science, the story was folklore… until recently. 🔍 DISCOVERY: In recent decades, Peruvian geoscientist Andrés Ruzo decided to investigate these tales. During expeditions through the jungle, he found and documented the river, proving the legend was real. BUT… WHY DOES IT BOIL? The origin of the hot water is a mystery. Some theories include: - Underground volcanic activity - Geological faults and hot springs - Decomposition of organic material - Geothermal heating Had you ever heard of this secret of the tropical forests? #river #tropicalforest #amazon #legend

🧡 The heroes of restoration don’t wear capes… they proudly wear their orange uniforms. These heroes might not fly or teleport, but they embrace every challenge that comes their way as they head out into the field. And let me tell you, the journey to the field is an adventure, involving different modes of transportation, long hikes, and days spent in remote and stunning locations… Despite the challenges, the rewards are incredible: SINCE: a single hectare of restored tropical forest can sequester up to 180 tons of CO₂ in just 20 years! 💙 When you’re in a place as powerful as a forest, every effort is not just worth it, but a true privilege. Let’s grow! Source: Nature - "The carbon sink of secondary and degraded humid tropical forests” #forestrestauration #reflorestation #tropicalforest

🌸 Does this flower seem familiar to you? In the forest, it’s a standout, too! We’re talking about the PAGODA FLOWER (*Clerodendrum paniculatum*), a shrub from the Lamiaceae family, that doesn’t have this beautiful shape and color by chance. Like everything in nature, its special appearance serves a clear purpose: 🐝 WHY THIS COLOR? It’s designed to attract pollinators. Additionally, the shape of the pagoda flower provides a perfect "PLATFORM," making the pollination process easier. ⛩️ AND THE NAME? The pagoda flower got its name because it resembles the layered towers of a PAGODA or TEMPLE, typical of many Asian cultures. 🌏 WHERE DOES IT COME FROM? Native to TROPICAL ASIA, the pagoda flower was introduced to Brazil as an ornamental plant due to its exotic beauty. Its excellent adaptation to tropical climates has made it a common sight in GARDENS and URBAN LANDSCAPES across the country. This photo was taken during one of our recent visits to the Amazon rainforest, where the pagoda flower stands out amidst the vast greenery! #forestrestauration #Amazon #biodiversity #tropicalforest
