Sword Instructor Gerald
Fight in a 1v1 against your friend or against Instructor Gerald, an advanced AI that adapts his fighting style to you. If you are ferocious, he will attack you head on. If you fight slower, he'll be more laid back. He tries to predict your attacks seconds before you attack. He offers two fighting styles for you to face against. A balanced style perfect for beginners and an aggressive style that makes him reckless and prone to exhaustion.
Special Mechanics Explained
Most actions take stamina, ranging from attacking to defending. When you block your enemy's attack, your enemy takes a big hit to stamina.
When someone overuses their stamina, they become exhausted. While exhausted, their attacks and defenses are weakened.
Exhausted fighters deal 25% of their usual damage and no longer flinch the enemy. Blocks no longer fully mitigate damage but rather block 30% of incoming damage.
One important detail is that exhausted blocks still deal full stamina rebound damage, opening up the possibility of exhausting the enemy.
A special interaction happens when both players are exhausted. Exhausted attacks do full damage against exhausted enemies, and exhausted blocks fully mitigate against exhausted attacks.
Developer Notes
Thank you for trying out my game. Hopefully, this will be the first of many. I'm thinking about specializing in boss fight type games. In the short term, I plan to make bosses that you can fight with AI teammates. In the long term, I hope to make it multiplayer. How cool would it be to have 10 or 30 people fighting the same boss.

I download, i test, i delete.
hello, i'm stuck on the instruction screen, any idea what key to press to start the game?
Heya! Thanks for dropping by. The menu is entirely controlled with the left click of the mouse. For the instruction screen in particular, there should be a "back" button at the bottom that should bring you back.
Really fun! I can't wait for the updates! Just a few comments--would be nice if there was a way to pause the game without restarting. Also, I think it might be more intuitive to use back for block and forward for attack.
Great suggestions. Thanks for dropping by ^^
I also tried Toe 2 Toe out, you did a fantastic job on it! I wish you lots of success
I don't usually play games on itch.io due to fps issues on the browser however this is surprisingly fun. Keep it up!
Thank you! I hope you have a nice weekend ^^
a nice feature would be feinting (it’s kinda already exists), so you can kinda trick the enemy/player into blocking to throw them off
That is a neat idea. Thanks Emerald!
Why is the AI cheating? They don't lose any health on hit and you take more damage on defense? Yuck.
Edit: I'm an idiot. Maybe make the exhaustion more visible in game?
Fun mechanic for a more elaborate game.
Hey hey, yep, it's exhaustion. I'd like to make exhaustion more visible as well. I'll improve it with the next update. Thank you so much for playing my game!
Hey Humber, thanks for the great idea! I added your suggestion in.

It's now much easier to see if you are tired. I've also added a sound effect and an animation to make exhaustion easier to notice.
I thought I responded to this, looks good! thanks, merry christmas!
Merry Christmas to you as well! I hope you have a relaxing break ^^
A good run. ( balanced AI )
Great job! Thank you for playing
Hey, fun game, if you replace the clicks with arrow keys you can make it into a PVP game.
Do you plan to keep developing it?
Hey Beorgames, that's a pretty awesome idea!
I can add a PVP mode in with the second round of patches. To make PVP mode work, I'll add in a stamina bar that prevents people from blocking forever.
I'm nearly done my first round of updates. It consists of other feedback I received yesterday, mainly about the improving AI, as well as improving blocking animations.
Eventually, I want to move on to my next game idea, with 1 player 4 companion AI vs 1 boss AI. I think I'll be able to add in your idea as well here, so you can play as either the other companions, or perhaps even the boss.
Man, hotswapping is such a cool idea. With it, you can in theory play as any npc character. I'll explore that idea in my next game.
Fantastic! Please keep me posted with the new updates, I think it could do well on other browser platforms
Hey Beor, thanks a bunch for the pvp suggestion. I added your idea in. Also, amazing work with your games! I enjoyed playing your Hero Battle game.
Thanks!
The game is super cool playing PVP. Well done!
Honestly, a very fun game and I can see this turning into a mobile game! Keep up the good work. The controls are very responsive and simple so goo job.
Cheers, thanks for designing the UI packs!
Happy to help
Just fought a few rounds, this is a really cool concept, hope to see more full-fledged projects from you in the future!
Thanks for dropping by!
