Can a working mom have it all? My answer: With support, most of the time. Last week’s Women In Reinsurance (WiRe) Bermuda ‘WIRE Wednesday’ guest DeVika Bourne offered those present a frank and personal glimpse into what it takes to get to the top, and stay there. Our chat later was fun as we laughed about our shared experiences as working moms in demanding careers trying to get it done on the work front and at home. We agreed that the truth is we win most of the time and we lose some of the times. With the support of our partners, family and friends (‘the village’) we accept that we can not only go farther in our careers but also be better mothers. Why? Because the quality of our well-being is improved. Good for work. Great for home. Oh! Our kids also appreciate it too because we are nicer! Having been on the other side with our kids all twenty-somethings, I can say that kids of working moms will be alright and may I say better for it because they had a front row seat in transparent and imperfect parenting moments, the joys, laughter and frustrations while mom try to ‘make things happen’. As we approach Mother’s Day soon, here is wishing all moms, especially those working mothers who are literally juggling it all while slaying it at work, a time of reflection and gratitude to our village that help us reach our audacious goals while working.
