The Office of the Privacy Commissioner (PrivCom) for Bermuda was established as an independent public office in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act 2016 (PIPA). The mandate of the Privacy Commissioner is to regulate the use of personal information by organisations in a manner which recognizes both the need to protect the rights of individuals in relation to their personal information and the need for organisations to use personal information for legitimate purposes, among other duties.

This week, we visited the Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA) in Guernsey to discuss key topics like investigations, breach reporting, and community outreach, crucial for protecting privacy rights. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner emphasizes the importance of building partnerships, as demonstrated by our recent Memorandum of Understanding with the ODPA at the Global Privacy Assembly. We express our gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Angie Farquharson, Assistant Commissioner (Investigations) Chris Moulder, Investigation Officers Michael Jones and Yukio Swan, as well as ODPA for their warm hospitality.
