As we celebrate Pride month it’s a useful time to consider how well the protection market is serving the LGBTQ community. We conducted some consumer research into underserved sections of society and found that LGBTQ customers were 11% less likely to have individual protection than those identifying as heterosexual. As the protection market looks to provide more cover to a wider population, this is an area that needs further research to understand the barriers to purchasing. Perhaps some of the following factors are still influencing decisions? •        Being wary of engaging with individual products which have been slow to adopt more inclusive language •        Being put off by questions that feel intrusive and personal, or •        Belief there is a bias in insurance against those living with HIV Whatever the reasons, we must find ways to be more inclusive and ensure that more people are covered by protection insurance regardless of their demographics or circumstances. https://lnkd.in/eegefTAH

We were delighted to host the latest Protection Review event this week in our London office. It was fantastic to see the future leaders of the Protection industry sharing their ideas and challenging existing ways of working.  #Protection #GenZ

Co-Chair, Income Protection Task Force (IPTF) and Director of Operations for Protection Review as well as providing operational support to the Protection Distributors Group (PDG)

Today was an absolute pleasure. Listening to new perspectives, challenging existing beliefs and ways of thinking- everything an event focused on GenZ should be. Thank you to all the panellists who made the event so interesting and thought provoking. For many it was the first time speaking on a panel but it was inspiring to see your confidence grow and the sense of achievement at having taken part. And thank you to our event sponsors UnderwriteMe Pacific Life Re and Cirencester Friendly Society Limited - your support enables these important events to happen. Have already spoken with my two Gen Z’ers at home to learn more about the lingo I need to get familiar with (hint, don’t use the word lingo!). Kevin Carr Roger Edwards

We were delighted to be presented with the artwork created for our Sydney office by the fabulous Aboriginal artist Brett Groves. The piece is a beautiful depiction of a whale and her calf and was commissioned to support our work with Reconciliation Australia. We are creating a 'Reflect' Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) through which we are seeking to contribute to meaningful change to support First Nations communities. As part of this work, we are creating a strategic framework to educate staff, improve relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and engage key stakeholders that support these communities. We will be finalising our Reconciliation Action Plan in the next few months and are proud that the artwork will feature in the final report. Thanks to the members of the RAP committee Aoife Kelly ACA Therese Doherty, Stephanie Martin Michael Williamson, Mikey Anthony and Tony Tong.

Thank you to The Trussell Trust for organising such a great day racing, in costumes (!) along the Thames in their annual Dragon Boat Race to help raise much needed funds. Congratulations to our team who managed not to capsize and actually win their heats! Thanks also to our clients Daniel Simpson, Nicki Plews, Manraj Purewal and Szymon Marszalek for being such an integral part of our team.

A great day spent Dragon Boat Racing with Pacific Life Re clients and colleagues in London Docklands yesterday. Despite getting a bit wet, and the hats not being particularly aerodynamic, we came first in our heats. All in all a great day, and for an important cause, raising money for our charity partner The Trussell Trust

We’re delighted to be celebrating Pride month again this year here at Pacific Life Re. Celebrating Pride isn’t just something that happens during Pride month, and we’re coming into the month on the back of a couple of great events held in London. The first was the talk, One Leader, Two Genders – gender, diversity, culture and acceptance given by Cynthia Fortlage who gave us a real insight into her experiences of being a trans woman in the workplace. The second was a great workshop given by Stonewall on LGBTQ allyship which helped participants develop an understanding of LGBTQ identities and experiences. We also explored the meaning of the term ally and identified the first steps that people can take to be a more active and visible ally. It was such an interesting and inclusive event and we look forward to hosting more workshops in the future. Across our offices we’ll be having some fun with a trivia night hosted by Becca D’Bus in Singapore, drag queen bingo withy Messy Productions in Toronto, and a quiz night in London presented by Queerz Night.  And thanks to Link: LGBTQ Insurance Network in London and Toronto we’ll finish the month with some of our team joining the London and Toronto Pride parades on 29 and 30 June. #Pridemonth #PrideinLondon #Pride2024 #lifeatPLRe
