Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) was created to serve as a formal association representing the long-term insurers and reinsurers in Bermuda. The primary focus of BILTIR is to act as an advocate for Bermuda’s life and annuity industry for public policy that supports the industry marketplace, including regulatory requirements, other Bermuda Monetary Authority or Bermuda government issues, and tax matters with various jurisdictions. Today BILTIR represents 61 companies in the long-term insurance and reinsurance sector and is committed to supporting the industry’s growth and success in Bermuda and globally.

Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers - BILTIR is proud to announce the start of its 7th annual summer #intern program. The program is ten weeks long running from June 10 to August 16 with 23 interns participating from 13 member companies - Agam Capital, Athene, Hannover Re, Global Atlantic Financial Group, Kuvare Life Re , Legal & General, Resolution Life, Pacific Life Re, Phoenix Re, RGA, Somerset Reinsurance, Wilton Re Bermuda and SunLife. The interns attended an orientation session on June 10th to introduce them to the life/annuity business sector with Sylvia Oliveira, FSA, CFA as the presenter. They will also attend weekly lunch and learn sessions generously hosted by member companies on topics such as Introduction to ESG Investing, Insight into the Asian Market and #Reinsurance vs #Insurance. The Bermuda Monetary Authority will also host the interns for a session introducing them to the supervision of long-term companies in Bermuda. #buildingforthelongterm #lifeinsurance #annuities

Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers - BILTIR is excited to partner with Morgan State University to support the participation of two #futurebusinessleaders in its 2024 Summer Academy of Actuarial Mathematical Sciences Program (SAAMS). Zai Daniels a student at The Berkeley Institute (Bermuda) and Deantae Scott a student at CedarBridge Academy were the successful candidates over applicants from both private and public schools in Bermuda. The brainchild of Dr. Candice Marshall, this program is an amazing opportunity for students with a passion for mathematics. The insurance & long-term savings industry is truly global and this past week has been a particularly good reminder of this. Following my recent travels to Gibraltar and Helsinki to meet international partners, it was a pleasure to welcome first a delegation from Bermuda and then the head of New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority to our offices at One America Square. Suzanne Williams-Charles is the new CEO of Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers - BILTIR, and it was great to meet with her along with Executive Advisor, David Altmaier, and Jonathan Moss, CEO, Resolution Re to discuss issues common to our markets and to emphasise the Association of British Insurers’ ongoing commitment to working closely with BILTIR and other Bermudan partners. Meeting with Samantha Barrass and Daniel Trinder from the FMA provided a helpful opportunity to share perspectives about the approach to conduct regulation in New Zealand and the UK, and to talk through some of the common challenges that we see across international markets and the lessons that can be learned or imparted. It was great to meet with all of you – so thank you for making time to check in with us on your visits to London.

BILTIR was honored to host Morgan State University actuarial science students, and their professors/administration, along with the US Consul General Karen Grissette and Bermuda College students and deans. Morgan State is the only #HBCU offering an actuarial science major.
