This week marks #EUGreenWeek 🌍 This year's campaign aims to stimulate an EU-wide conversation around water today and in the future. 💧 Did you know that #agrisolar can play a significant role in reducing water usage in farming? A great example is Amarenco's solar greenhouses in France, where the shading of the greenhouses reduces the need for water by 20-30% due to reduced evaporation. In addition to this, the crops are protected from a heavy frost experienced during winter. Check out more examples in SolarPower Europe's Agrisolar Best Practice Guidelines, and view our digital map to see where agrisolar projects are located across Europe 👉 https://lnkd.in/eUv5QBQS

SolarPower Europe's Agrisolar Best Practice Guidelines have made it all the way to Japan! 🗾 SolarPower Europe published the second version of the Agrisolar Best Practices report in June 2023, providing guidance for the deployment of sustainable Agri-PV practices for solar industry stakeholders. The report recognises the positive impacts of agrisolar on the environment, socioeconomy, and society: decarbonisation, energy security, sustainable dual land use, nature preservation, soil health, and food security. “That stimulated us to introduce it to the Japanese audience where people only focus on the negative aspects of photovoltaics, while the government appraises nuclear power as a part of its own green transformation strategy,” – tetsunari iida, Chairperson of Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies "We are pleased to see our Agrisolar Best Practices Guidelines report making its way across the globe. The translation of this guide will support the roll-out of Agrisolar in Japan, by sharing key learnings from the technology's development in Europe." – Lina D., Policy Advisor for Sustainability, SolarPower Europe. #Agrisolar #AgriPV #Solar #Agriculture #SustainableAgriculture

🔍 Zooming in on the Agrisolar landscape in Croatia. We recently interviewed Maya Pokrovac, Director of Renewable Energy Sources of Croatia about recent developments that will help boost Agrisolar roll out in the country 🚜 ☀ "According to the European Environment Agency (EEA) report, Croatia is one of the three European countries that suffer the highest cumulative share of damages from extreme weather and climate conditions, which decreases the gross national product (GNP) 📉 . Between 2013 and 2019, droughts, floods and hailstorms caused damages to agriculture worth a total of €1.2 billion. Dry periods and rising temperatures 🌡 are serious challenges for Croatian farmers and agriculture. Since Croatia is a mainly rural country, there is a huge interest from smaller farmers in agrisolar in order to be competitive with farmers who possess large plantations."
