Read them here: https://lnkd.in/ed-6CNYj We have urgent work ahead with this new Commission to restore Europe’s leading e-mobility position and seize the opportunities on offer for investment and new jobs. Two big priorities will be ensuring EU competitiveness and keeping clarity towards 2035 targets. Six key initiatives to prepare for: 1. 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐥, 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞, 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 —> Europe’s battery supply chain in particular needs swift EU support to scale-up and compete. We have the projects, now let’s ensure they turn into successful final investments. 2. 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐔 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝, 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚. —> Manufacturing-focussed EU finance is much needed, but will Member States buy in sufficiently for Europe to really compete against the US and China? 3. 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 2035 𝐂𝐎2 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐩𝐤𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐞𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚, 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 “𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐞-𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲” —> Clarity and predictability for Europe’s 2035 zero emission car sales target need to be the priority, and will stay driven by electrification. “Targeted” must stay the key word! 4. 𝐄𝐔 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐓𝐳𝐢𝐭𝐳𝐢𝐤𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨n 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐡𝐢’𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. —> Let’s work to turn this into an action-focussed plan for the full ecosystem to move forward under, from vehicles to batteries to charging to components - with real impact. 5. 𝐀 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐮𝐩 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐓𝐳𝐢𝐭𝐳𝐢𝐤𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐬 —> Two crucial measures to help boost EU demand for the purchase and use of electric vehicles. If we help more Europeans buy and lease electric, the rest will fall into place much easier. 6. 𝐀𝐧 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧, 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐧, 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 —> A big ask we’ve shared with other sectors, from solar to wind to copper And that’s not to mention Maros Sefcovic’s trade portfolio relevant to electric car, battery, and raw material imports, or Jessika Roswall’s work on a chemicals industry package including much needed clarity on PFAS.
