#Belize is unlocking #ClimateAction with increased #transparency A training programme on climate transparency has increased Belize's capacity to report under #EnhancedTransparencyFramework under the #ParisAgreement. Central to this initiative is the Greenhouse Gas Abatement Cost Model (#GACMO), a newly updated tool that can be used for #emission and mitigation modelling, improving Belize’s climate tracking and reporting efforts. The training programme, which contains a series of training workshops, is carried out under the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT).

For Indigenous people, land is the foundation of their lives and culture. Protecting their land is key to their survival. This women-led Ecuadorian guard is doing just that!   Over 40 Kichwa women in the Ecuadorian Amazon formed “Yuturi Warmi” - a guard to defend their territory against mining. Led by María José Andrade Cerda, they protect not only the land, but also their culture, education, and health. Their efforts are inspired by the Yuturi ants, known as “conga ants,” who fiercely defend their homes. Initially, Yuturi Warmi aimed to increase income through crafts, but with growing mining threats, they focused on territorial defense . Despite challenges, they've become Ecuador's first Indigenous guard led by Kichwa women, striving against all forms of interference in their territory. Their struggle resonates internationally, but they face gender-based skepticism and marginalization from the state. "The intersecting climate and human rights crises are going to become progressively more challenging." (p8). This report explores the pressing issue of heat resilience and the impact on human rights. It sheds light on the increasing threats to human rights, such as the right to health, education, food, water and shelter, that extreme heat and creates.
