📣 Read our latest EU & Belgian Data Protection and TMT update! 🤖 On 5 September, the European Commission signed the Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, the first legally binding international agreement on AI. The Convention provides for a common approach to ensure that AI systems are compatible with human rights, democracy and the rule of law, while enabling innovation and trust. It includes a number of key concepts from the EU AI Act such as a risk-based approach, transparency along the value chain of AI systems and AI-generated content, detailed documentation obligations for AI systems identified as high-risk, and risk management obligations with the possibility to introduce bans for AI systems considered a clear threat to fundamental rights. https://lnkd.in/d9W79Dx4 💰 The European Data Protection Board has published a call for participants in a remote stakeholder event aimed at collecting stakeholders’ input in the context of upcoming guidelines on the application of data protection legislation in the context of ‘Consent or Pay’ models. These models require data subjects to choose between consenting to processing of personal data for a specified purpose or paying a fee. The event will take place on 18 November 2024 and the call for expression of interest to participate will take place on 12 September. https://lnkd.in/eUEhT9Cf 😶 The Dutch DPA has imposed a fine of 30.5 million EUR and orders subject to a penalty for non-compliance up to more than 5 million EUR on Clearview AI, a company that offers facial recognition services.
