🎤🙌 It's festival season! Did you know? Music festivals across Europe are using renewable electricity to power their parties! 1️⃣ - #RockWerchter (🇧🇪) and Bolt installed the first-ever wind turbine at a Belgian festival. The 20-meter-tall turbine supplied an average of 110 kWh of electricity per day. They also added a solar installation covering 170m2 to supply the festival with solar power. Three super batteries collected the electricity and stored it. Rock Werchter said two stages in the festival ran entirely on locally generated green power, significantly reducing the use of diesel generators. 📷 Stein Van der Looij 2️⃣ - #Glastonbury (🇬🇧) and Octopus Energy partnered to install ‘Gusty Spinfield’- a 28-meter-tall turbine. 'Gusty' powered the food vendors - feeding up to 300 fridges with #renewableelectricity. And that's not all, Greg Jackson, founder of Octopus Energy, made his Glastonbury stage debut and talked about how renewable electricity is revolutionising communities and driving sustainability within the music industry. 📷 Octopus Energy 3️⃣ - Paradise City Festival (🇧🇪) and Eneco Belgium worked hand in hand to run the festival on 66% renewable energy. How did they achieve that? 33% of the energy comes from the 372m2 solar panels spread across the grounds and the pond surrounding the festival. The remaining 33% came from a green electric cabin which got its power from a local #solar panel park. They also had battery containers that stored the energy generated by solar panels. The Contrast Stage was 99.22% powered by solar energy. The International Greener Future Awards named it the most sustainable festival in the world in 2024. 📷 Paradise City Festival & Eneco Belgium 4️⃣ - Mad Cool festival (🇪🇸) and Iberdrola Renewables achieved the full #electrification of their stages with 100% green energy. They also reduced and optimised energy use through efficient lighting. They had LED technology to light up the bars, tents, gathering areas, and VIP zones. Dua Lipa, Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne are some of the big names that performed on the 100% sustainable stages. 📷 Iberdrola Music Pieterjan Verhaeghen Trippin Esther Koshari Jimmy Demeyer Resident Advisor DJ Mag

🚢 Interesting development at the Port of Cork Company Ltd. The Port of Cork announced that the Irish Department of Transport awarded them €38.4 million from the EU's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding scheme. This investment will fund the construction of two new quay berths at Ringaskiddy and thus boosting capacity and efficiency. And it will enable them to accommodate more vessels. Finally it supports the port's Masterplan 2050 that aims for developing more offshore renewable energy. Read more ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/evEVjgC5 📷 Port of Cork Company Ltd.

'The future of our prosperity must be made in Europe’ - WindEurope welcomes EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen’s commitment to home-grown renewables as part of the agenda for her second mandate. It’s great she’s announced a new Clean Industrial Deal. Europe’s energy intensive industries want to decarbonise. And they want to do it with the help of cheap wind energy. The wind industry is ready to make this happen - and we’re partnering with energy-intensives to help deliver the goals of the Antwerp Declaration. But it needs strong public policy support ➡ https://lnkd.in/engw2pC3 And it’s great that the new EU Commission is going to double down on its support for clean tech manufacturing with a new EU Competitiveness Fund. And that less red tape and faster permitting for renewables will remain priorities for the next five years. Von der Leyen’s Commission did a lot for wind energy in her first term. The 2023 Wind Power Package was already a big step in the right direction. More support is needed now to increase the number of new wind farms to meet the EU’s 2030 targets - and to strengthen the supply chains required for that. Wind is 20% of Europe’s electricity - the EU want it to be 35% by 2030. Nearly all the wind turbines built in Europe are made in Europe. To keep that the EU needs to further strengthen its wind supply chains and relevant logistics infrastructure. The energy transition is more than anything about the #electrification of energy - in transport, buildings and industry. It’s no good that electricity is still only 23% of EU energy consumption. The new Commission needs to give a big push here. They also need to continue the push they’ve started giving the expansion and modernisation of Europe’s electricity #grids. 📷 European Parliament

🚨 Member States must act now to deliver on the EU's 2030 energy & climate goals! On 30 June 2024 two critical deadlines passed. Member States were supposed to: 📮 ...submit their revised National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) – Only 6 countries did 📑 ...implement key provisions on permitting – Most have not The NECPs are key for the deployment of renewables. It is crucial Member States hand in their policies asap. Without these steps the EU's 2030 energy and climate targets are at risk. On the other hand, more countries should follow Germany's success with "overriding public interest" in permitting shows the way forward. Overriding public interest has helped to unblock projects that had been entangled in legal disputes. “Governments need to transpose the excellent new REDIII rules asap, especially overriding public interest. It’s one of the most powerful tools in toolbox. Germany is showing what’s possible. Other Governments need to follow suit and make full use of overriding public interest”, says Guy Willems, Advisor Environment & Community Engagement at WindEurope. 🔗Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eW698Vgu

🇬🇧 🌬️Exciting news from Northern Scotland! OW Ocean Winds's Moray West offshore wind farm has exported its first power to the grid. 🔌 The 882 MW wind farm is nearing the end of its #construction phase and will be fully operational in 2025. It will have 60 Siemens Gamesa 14.7 MW turbines and generate enough #electricity to power around 1.3 million homes in the #UK. 🏗️ The construction vessels used the PORT OF INVERGORDON LTD and Port of Nigg and the Crew Transfer Vessels operated from Buckie Harbour in Moray. With all foundations, offshore substations, and array cables installed, the rest of the turbine components are being pre-assembled at the Port of Nigg. The onshore substation is also progressing with the second circuit construction being finalised. A significant proportion of the wind farm's output will sold under Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), including with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The remaining 220.5 MW are allocated under a Contract for Difference from the UK offshore wind auction round 4 (AR4).

🇬🇧 The new UK Government has big plans for wind! ⬆️ The new UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Government are serious about #renewables. They want to increase the UK's #offshorewind fleet from a capacity of 15 GW today to 60 GW by 2030. And they also want to double the UK’s onshore wind capacity from 15 GW to 30 GW by then. 🙌 The Government is delivering already. On their first full working day in power, they lifted the de-facto ban on onshore wind in England! 🏗️ But there is still a lot of work to do. The electricity grid is a major bottleneck. Five times more electricity #infrastructure needs to be constructed by 2030 than in the past three decades to deliver a net zero grid. Receiving project consent from authorities is another bottleneck. More than 100 GW of wind energy projects in the UK are waiting for their grid connection assessment. Labour has shown a strong commitment to deliver on these issues in its election manifesto. We are looking forward to more wind progress in the UK! 🔗 Read our news piece to learn more about the new plans: https://lnkd.in/eprfpsV8 📸 Our photo shows Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and Scottish Labour Leader Anas Sarwar visiting the Beatrice wind farm in Wick, Scotland. 📢 #SupportPPAs! - WindEurope alongside corporate renewable energy buyers, producers, and energy transition leaders, is calling for urgent action from the EU to recognise EV battery manufacturer's power purchase agreements (PPAs). 🚗 🔋 The Draft Delegated Act on the #EVBatteries carbon footprint methodology risks hampering Europe's growing PPA market – a key #decarbonisation tool for corporates. We call the European Commission and Member States to: ✅ Recognise PPAs in the EV battery carbon footprint methodology ✅ Continue incentivising EV battery supply chain to decarbonise their electricity supply by combining PPAs and Guarantees of Origin (GOs) ✅ Don’t create parallel carbon accounting methodologies and risk double-counting Read the full joint letter and join us in urging the #EU to act!  https://lnkd.in/e6mYqiws
