🚨Out now - Wind energy data for Europe: Autumn 2024 🆕📊WindEurope’s newest data report reveals that #Europe built 6.4 GW of new wind farms in the first half of the year. Germany built the most with 1.7 GW, followed by France 1.2 GW and Spain 876 MW. Which brings Europe to 278 GW of #windpower capacity. This autumn update outlines the latest data for #windenergy our expectations for the rest of the decade. Other findings reveals that turbine orders increased by 11% from 2023 and auction volumes are strong with 19.7 GW of new capacity awarded. But challenges are holding back progress: grid bottlenecks, delays in permitting, and difficulties in securing big investments. What needs to happen next? 1. Grid expansion: New connections and grid updates must be fast-tracked to keep up with the growing capacity. 2. Permitting: While some countries like Germany are making progress, others need to catch up and fully implement the new EU rules. 3. Ports: Investments in infrastructure are essential to support the increase in offshore wind projects. Get the full report 👉 https://lnkd.in/emJhkjDf

New French Prime Minister Michel Barnier is right. It’s crucial to “measure the impact of wind farms”. Wind energy in Europe means: 👉 370,000 jobs; 👉 over 250 factories; 👉 100 bcm fewer fossil fuel imports every year; 👉 better energy security, more strategic autonomy; 👉 investments in the French countryside, ports and coastal towns; and 👉 major income for France’s municipalities. Europe faces falling competitiveness, rising geopolitical tensions and a climate crisis. Wind helps tackle all three. Quite an impact, Prime Minister.

🎉 The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm is officially up and running in France! This is an important milestone for our company as we expand into the French market and contribute to the global effort for clean energy and climate protection. Some insights from the Saint Brieuc wind farm: ✔️ 62 SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines, the most powerful in France. ✔️ With an installed capacity of 496 MW. ✔️ It is one of the largest offshore wind farms in France. ✔️ Saint Brieuc will produce the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 835,000 people. Congratulations to Iberdrola Renewables and the whole team! More than 150 European companies were involved in the construction of the wind farm, creating more than 1,700 jobs. This project not only contributes to Europe's energy security and climate goals, but also plays a key role in the industrial revitalization off the region. #WindEnergy #EnergyTransition

⚡ The week of #WindEnergyHamburg closes with strong winds. Around a third of all electricity consumed in Europe came from wind energy yesterday. 7️⃣ Seven countries could cover more than 40% of their #electricity needs from #wind - and the strong winds were quite evenly distributed across Europe with countries in the South and the North of Europe reaching high shares: 🇮🇪 Ireland - 58% 🇩🇪 Germany - 57% 🇵🇹 Portugal - 55% 🇪🇸 Spain - 52% 🇩🇰 Denmark - 49% 🇱🇹 Lithuania - 48% 🇫🇮 Finland - 44% 🌬️ With storms brewing, the next days could lead to even higher shares of wind energy in Europe's power mix. To keep track of how much electricity your country is producing from wind make sure to sign up for our "Daily Wind Numbers": https://lnkd.in/ew_xXeU

Let’s wake up and scale up, Europe! €800bn in annual investments to make Europe competitive. That’s what the Draghi report prescribed. How do we mobilise and incentivise those huge amounts? That was the exam question at the “Antwerp Dialogue” WindEurope hosted yesterday with top officials from the European Commission - together with our partners from Cefic and Eurometaux (European Metals Association) yesterday. To deliver the transition, Europe must: 🏗️ Provide guarantees to scale up manufacturing; 🏦 Reform taxation to deliver the transition; 💶 Simplify and accelerate EU funding and financing – where necessary on an open-door basis; 📖 Learn from past experiences on the Hydrogen Bank and the Innovation Fund; and 👩🔧 Ensure Government support translates into tangible investments and jobs across Europe. Many thanks to all for your input and in particular to Kerstin Jorna, Elisabeth Werner and Bas Eickhout for your leadership on this agenda.

#WindEnergyHamburg 2024 has kicked off today! We have the key takeaways from this morning's opening ceremony for you. 👇 👇 💭 Robert Habeck, Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs, assured participants that Germany will keep track and continue accelerating the expansion of wind energy. He highlighted the country's recent successes: 27% of German electricity consumption is now covered by wind, and more than 50% by #renewables. This year alone, Germany is set to award more than 10 GW of new wind energy capacity. A record. 💭 WindEurope Chair and Nordex Group CEO Jose Luis Blanco said that the principle of "overriding public interest" (OPI) had been instrumental in speeding up German permitting of new wind farms. He called upon other EU countries to follow Germany's example and rigorously implement OPI. 💭 Tinne Van der Straeten, Belgium's Minister of Energy, stressed that Europe must expand its electricity #grids and ramp up direct #electrification to accommodate the growing amounts of electricity from wind. The current slow grid buildout was threatening Europe's decarbonisation goals and the industrial #competitiveness of the European economy, she said. 💭 ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer ensured participants that the wind energy #supplychain will deliver on the volumes required by 2030. But he insisted that Germany and Europe now need to invest in the supporting #infrastructure for the energy transition: grids, roads and bridges.
