Today Valipac had the honour of welcoming Bram Peetermans, CEO of Rematics. The meeting was an opportunity to discover an innovative approach to waste management. Rematics, a Belgian company at the cutting edge of technology, is revolutionising waste analysis using artificial intelligence and computer vision. Their system, integrated into lorries, enables recyclable materials to be identified and quantified precisely, without the need for physical sorting. This technology aligns perfectly with our mission at Valipac: to optimise the recycling of industrial packaging waste. The Rematics system offers companies a powerful tool for assessing the quality of their sorting and tracking their progress towards their recycling targets. Beyond the technological aspect, we were impressed by Rematics' commitment to raising awareness of selective sorting. Their approach, based on the collection of accurate data, promises to significantly improve waste management. This visit opens up exciting prospects for the future of recycling in Belgium. 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦. Our Managing Director, Francis Huysman, has taken up the position of Managing Director at Fost Plus, while retaining his role at Valipac. The new configuration should strengthen the cooperation between Fost Plus and Valipac while maintaining their respective independence. It will also allow both organisations to respond effectively to the future challenges of European legislation and optimise their actions in packaging waste management. Xavier Lhoir will be appointed Deputy Managing Director of Valipac, in addition to his current responsibilities as Director Operations and Circularity. This transition ensures continuity in our operations and strategy. 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐣𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐜. Onze Managing Director, Francis Huysman, zal voortaan ook de functie van Managing Director bij Fost Plus opnemen, terwijl hij zijn rol bij Valipac behoudt.  De nieuwe configuratie moet de samenwerking tussen Fost Plus en Valipac versterken met behoud van hun respectievelijke onafhankelijkheid.  Hiermee zullen beide organisaties ook effectief kunnen inspelen op de toekomstige uitdagingen van de Europese wetgeving en hun acties op het gebied van verpakkingsafvalbeheer optimaliseren.  Xavier Lhoir wordt benoemd tot Deputy Managing Director van Valipac, naast zijn huidige verantwoordelijkheden als Director Operations and Circularity. ♻️Yesterday, the Valipac team had the opportunity to visit RAFF Plastics, a leading recycling company in West Flanders. What we discovered was both concerning and urgent for our industry. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: 🚨Crisis in European recycling: The sector is facing severe competition from the Far East, with recycled plastic prices halving since 2022. 🚨Threat to Sustainability Goals: CEO Caroline Van der Perre warns that this situation undermines European efforts towards sustainability and circularity. 🚨Regulatory Gaps: Current EU regulations don't specify that recycled content must come from European sources, allowing cheap imports to flood the market. 🚨Industry-Wide Impact: The entire sector (about 20 companies in Belgium) is in deep crisis, with some production lines halted despite recent investments. After Verpact in The Netherlands, we are pleased to announce the signing of a collaboration agreement between Valipac and 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 (Urvinnslusjodur) to strengthen our initiative to audit plastic recyclers outside the EU and support the development of the system for other waste flows. We already know that a large proportion of industrial plastic packaging waste from different EU member states is recycled by the same recyclers outside the EU. The collaboration with Valipac will allow IRF to: ✔️Have a better view of the compliance of the final recycling destinations of Icelandic packaging waste, ✔️ Benefit from Valipac's experience in organising audits of specific recycling destinations, ✔️Promote administrative simplification through joint audits of traders. Going green to strengthen bonds! The entire Valipac team got together for a day of team building and respect for nature. Away from the office, we joined forces to take on some fun challenges in the great outdoors. This convivial day was the perfect opportunity to strengthen our ties, discover each other in a new light, and reaffirm our motivation to work hand in hand for a sustainable future.
