🔊 A promotion event of shifting #trucks to #trains 🚛 ➡ 🚆 took place at the Bettembourg Terminal of CFL - Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois with a strong participation of Combined Transport operators, customers, technology providers, terminals and rail traction subcontractors. 👉 UIRR Director General, Ralf-Charley Schultze, emphasised that "while the #CombinedTransport community suffered 18-months of recession, the development of capacities and capabilities did not stop. The competitiveness of the sector advanced as Combined Transport continues to offer an attractive solution for shippers and LSPs. Combined Transport is part of the Industrial Deal, its a mainstay of the European economy's resilience and competitiveness." 🚛 ➡ 🚆 #modalshift will only work if adequate quality and quantity of train paths (= #rail infrastructure capacity 🛤) is granted to #freight #trains ☝ especially the ones carrying #intermodal cargo, as 9 out of 10 of these cross at least one internal border of the #EU (=almost twice the rate of freight trains in general) 🔎 An efficient European system of allocating infrastructure access to freight trains, both during regular timetabling and at times of capacity restrictions (=works) should replace the current patchwork of national capacity allocation as a consequence of the new #RailInfrastructureCapacityManagementRegulation. 👉 conflicts between applications (at times of capacity shortage) should be resolved based on the Commission-proposed SOCIO-ECONOMIC and ENVIRONMENTAL COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS method ❗ Associations of shippers (CLECAT and European Shippers' Council), rail freight (ERFA-European Rail Freight Association, International Union of Wagon Keepers (UIP)) and #CombinedTransport (UIRR) joined to issue a statement calling on Member States (the Hungarian Presidency) and the European Parliament, as well as the European Commission to keep this in mind during the trialogue negotiations 🖱 CLICK for DETAILS: https://lnkd.in/dnifzMt2 Herald Ruijters Filip-Alexandru Negreanu-Arboreanu Elzbieta Lukaniuk Tilly Metz European Greens

🎉 DUISBURG GATEWAY TERMINAL: Europe's newest trimodal #intermodal #terminal was visited by UIRR. 🔎 The terminal visit was followed by a meeting to review the #intercontinental relations handled in Duisburg, which is the leading destination of #freight #trains between #Europe and #Asia. The exchange was to prepare the upcoming meeting of UIRR's Intercontinental Platform. 👉 The 2024 meeting of UIRR's Intercontinental Platform will focus on the Middle Corridor, whose European gateways are - Istanbul (#Turkiye) - Varna (#Bulgaria) and - Costanta (#Romania) Rail Cargo Operator - CSKD s.r.o.
