🆕 Our EU Solar Jobs Report 2024 is out!   📈 SolarPower Europe's new EU Solar Jobs Report reveals that by the end of 2023, the sector offered 826,000 jobs, marking a 27% increase compared to 2022!    🚨 However, the report warns that the annual growth of solar employment will stall in 2024, with a projected growth of only 0.4% this year.   The pause in EU solar workforce growth reflects the slower solar deployment growth projected in 2024, especially in the rooftop market, and the challenges experienced by the solar manufacturing sector.   To ensure that the solar workforce remains ready to deliver solar energy to meet the continent’s decarbonisation targets, the EU Solar Jobs Report makes a number of policy recommendations: 🔍 Assessing the exact need for workers and skillsets at national level. 🛣 Creating a pan-renewable energy career path. ⚡ Including an electrification skills strategy under the Upcoming EU Electrification Action Plan. 🤩 Boosting the visibility and allure of STEM education and careers. 🎓 Retraining workers from legacy-fossil industries. 👷♀️ Supporting the circulation of skills in Europe. ☀ Developing solar-specific training within electrical professional training.   Read the full EU Solar Jobs Report 2024 here 👉 https://lnkd.in/exrVVy9i   #SolarJobsWeek #SolarJobs #SolarWorks #skills

What is the state of play for solar jobs in Europe? ☀️   This morning, we officially kicked off #SolarJobsWeek with a dynamic breakfast briefing at SolarPower Europe's office. ☕   Policymakers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders gathered to discuss the findings of our soon-to-be-launched 2024 EU Solar Jobs Report. 👷♀️   The European solar sector continues to lead in employment growth, but with market slowdowns this year, workforce challenges are mounting. As our CEO Walburga Hemetsberger pointed out:   “We need clean, good jobs to make sure that people are profiting from the energy transition.”   Sharing insights from the 2024 EU Solar Jobs Report, our Deputy CEO, Dries Acke reinforced the importance of proactive policy measures:   “Only what gets measured gets done, once you assess you also need to act. For solar and other renewables, we need to be able to adhere to fluctuations in the market.” 📈   Daniela Santopolo from the European Commission stressed:   “Skills are a top concern for the EU political agenda. Assessing skills needs is urgent. We must involve as many stakeholders as possible—training providers, social partners, and industry—to design concrete actions.” 👷♂️   Fruzsina (Fru) Csonka from EIT InnoEnergy noted:   “There are no quick fixes. We need to listen to each other and build on each other’s intelligence.” 🧠   Meanwhile, Julie Beaufils Secretary General of EuropeOn - The European Electrical Contractors Association emphasised:   “We all want to accelerate, but we have to recruit much more people and convince them to join this critical sector.” With solar set to be one of the continent's key decarbonisation tools, the time to secure our workforce is now. Our 2024 EU Solar Jobs Report outlines key strategies to ensure a future-ready workforce for the energy transition. 💹    Missed the breakfast today? 🆕 The EU will extend parts of its State Aid subsidy rules 🔜 Competition Ministers from the 27 EU countries met today in Brussels and have asked the European Commission to extend 📝 parts of the EU State Aid 'Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework' (TCTF). The rules dictate how much support EU countries can give to their industry. Dries Acke, our Deputy CEO, said: “It’s good news for solar manufacturers 🏭 that Europe will extend parts of the current subsidy framework beyond 2025. Solar manufacturers need support to reach the EU target of 30 GW of manufacturing by 2030 – we recommend the extension of the TCTF until then... We look forward to analysing the Council conclusions in detail when they available, and supporting the European Commission in their update of State Aid rules.” Read our full reaction 👉 https://lnkd.in/enDAYskR #MakeSolarEU
