With record-breaking attendance —over 15.000 energy experts — our #DemandSideFlexibility pavilion was buzzing with ideas and discussions on advancing the #EnergyTransition. Highlights included: 💡 Panel session: Our Executive Director Michael Villa joined Carmen Gimeno de la Fuente (GEODE - The voice of local energy distributors across Europe), Dr. Rainer E. Pflaum (TransnetBW GmbH), and Oonagh O Grady (Hydrostor) for an insightful talk moderated by Ana Rovzar on making #grid upgrades affordable, sustainable, and future-proof. 💡 Flavours of Flex Brunch session🥐: Our co-exhibitors presented their innovative energy solutions, and exchanged thoughts with participants on demand-side flexibility over coffee and pastries. During the event, smartEn hosted an informal dinner focused on #Interoperability and #BidirectionalCharging for #ElectricVehicles. Here are the key takeaways from our discussions: ☑ 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝟮𝗫 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀: Many OEMs are gearing up to launch new V2X-ready platforms, indicating significant progress in the industry. ☑ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: A strong interoperability framework is crucial to prevent technology lock-in, ensuring consumers access the best solutions. ☑ 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀: V2X technology can transform power systems, facilitating effective #decarbonisation while managing costs for end users. ☑ 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Rapid deployment of the new #RepowerEU and #DSF Network Code is vital, alongside necessary reforms in the #ElectricityMarketDesign. ☑ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Bidirectional charging should do more than save money; solutions should be user-friendly and attractive enough to gain traction independently, without relying solely on government incentives. Building consumer trust is a critical responsibility for the #FlexibleDemandManagementIndustry. ☑ 𝗨𝗞’𝘀 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 & 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦): Interoperability is key to the UK's SSES program. Progress is being made, but integrating bidirectional charging remains a priority aligned with international standards.
