‼️ SGI Europe 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 ‼️ ▶️ 𝗦𝗚𝗜𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 ◀️ Owned, managed and “made in” Europe, services of general interest (SGIs) provide for the performance of the EU #economy and the well-being of citizens. They reinforce the EU’s #sovereignty and #OpenStrategicAutonomy while supporting the EU’s democracy and values. In the past five years, SGI Europe has been on the frontline through the #COVID19 pandemic, the roll-out of the EU #GreenDeal, the development of an EU social policy respecting the principle of #subsidiarity and the role of social partners, as well as the expansion of the “#foresight capacity” to better anticipate crises. Building upon those achievements, and considering SGIs’ essentiality to our social, environmental and economic well-being, we call on preserving the unique role of SGIs in the EU social and economic model, with a focus on: • Meeting the #investment challenge to support the EU Open Strategic Autonomy • Improving the #SingleMarket and the EU #IndustrialPolicy • Setting up EU #PublicGoods • Creating the conditions for reviving the EU #SocialDialogue • Anticipating SGIs in times of scarcity • Developing #skills to address labour shortages • Ensuring a “human-centric” approach to #AI which leaves no-one behind • Leveling the playing field between public and private undertakings To achieve those priorities, SGI Europe highlights the need for appropriate institutional recognition through: • Appointing a European Commission Vice-President for SGIs and proposing an SGIs Action Plan • Setting up of an #Intergroup of the European Parliament dedicated to SGIs MORE 👉 https://bit.ly/4cGO5AH

‼️Distribution Grids Matter‼️ 🔊 SGI Europe, together with a coalition of 14 European energy associations, collectively calls for putting distribution grids at the centre of attention of the European agenda for the next five years. 🗣️ In the joint statement, the coalition explains that Distribution System Operators (DSOs) are central players that contribute to driving the energy and digital transition on the ground to benefit all European citizens, enterprises, and industries. The distribution grids are incorporating an increasing amount of renewables and are becoming more customer-driven. DSOs are the key technical enablers of the 42.5% EU’s renewable energy target, as more than 70% of renewables will be connected to the distribution grid by 2030. More than 30 million electric vehicles (EVs) will be on the roads, and 60 million heat pump units will be installed by 2030. In brief, the stakeholder coalition calls for the following: 1️⃣ Create a new dedicated Grids Facility, possibly under the EU Competitiveness Fund, and align the EU financing instruments with the net-zero targets and DSOs’ needs to gear investments towards the required development of the distribution grid. 2️⃣ Introduce a grid mainstreaming approach to ensure DSOs’ needs are considered in every new and revised regulation, and that grid expansion does not lag behind. 3️⃣ Ensure the Green Deal’s implementation on the ground by enabling anticipatory investments, ensuring faster-permitting procedures, supporting the supply chain by reducing technical complexities and enhancing visibility, and providing suitable and forward-looking regulatory frameworks to guarantee the right investment-friendly environment. 4️⃣ Launch a European Grid Academy within the EU’s Net-Zero Academies framework to build and develop the right skills in the direct and indirect grid value chain.
