7/7 We are excited to announce SLS Energy as one of the selected ventures advancing to the acceleration phase of the #IGNITEChallenge 3.0, where they will receive both financial and technical support for five months. 🎉 SLS Energy provides Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) using batteries retired from electronic vehicles and electronic waste for mini-grids. Their solution offers reliable, real-time monitored power backups, reducing environmental impact and replacing diesel generators. This helps lower CO2 emissions, save costs, and support sustainable electricity for refugee businesses and camps. Day 3 of the SESA Project 4th Regional Event: Peer-to-Peer Exchange – Empowering Cities for Renewable Energy and E-Mobility 🔋🌍 Today, we’re excited to bring together representatives from Moroccan and European cities for a peer-to-peer exchange on collaboration for renewable energy and e-mobility initiatives! 🚗💡 Participants explored practical solutions in energy consumption, shared mobility, and energy sharing. I have just arrived to Milan for the #LEAP-RE Stakeholder Forum 2024 hosted at #Politecnico di Milano. I am excited to hear about insights on Science Diplomacy within the #AU-EU partnership and the Italian Mattei Plan. It’s an excellent opportunity to discuss about renewable energy investments and innovation in Africa. Tomorrow I will represent #SESA Project at the #InnovationCamp.

On October 2nd, SESA Project representative Silvia Isi Assalin took part in a workshop on “Powering renewable energy solutions through circular strategies” at the 10th European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns 🙌 #Decarbonizing our energy systems brings not only opportunities but also challenges, such as the growing amount of e-waste. By incorporating ♻️ #circular strategies for recycling and repurposing materials—similar to those explored in the SESA project—we can ensure a #sustainable #energytransition with minimal environmental impact. 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Europe must transition towards #sustainableenergy production and sharply increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to deliver on the Paris Agreement. Ambitious policies have been proposed, including the EU Rooftop Strategy, requiring PVs on all new public and commercial buildings by 2026. But what happens to PV panels when their lifespan is over? At the same time, energy storage is critical to make renewable energy reliable for large scale deployment, and storage capacity needs to triple by 2030 and increase tenfold by 2050. But how do we secure a sustainable and just value chain of the materials needed to build them? ♻️ #Circular strategies address both ends of the value chain: materials needed to produce these technologies as well as the #waste that is produced. 🙌 Explore the crossroads between renewable energy and a #circulareconomy and discuss the strategies cities are employing to facilitate this transition.
