The upcoming amendment to the Dutch Inland Shipping Police Regulations (BPR) recently announced by the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat marks a significant step forward for the future of smart shipping and for SEAFAR in particular! https://lnkd.in/de9g8pgJ This amendment will allow exemptions for automated and remotely operated ships on a selected number of articles of the BPR, making it possible to operate “smart” vessels under specific conditions across the BPR waterways. For SEAFAR and its clients, this development affirms the direction of future laws and regulations, giving new opportunities to increase efficiency and innovation within the inland shipping sector. This change not only benefits innovation in the Netherlands, but also aligns well with regulatory developments in Belgium, Germany and France. It contributes to the creation of a needed harmonized European regulatory framework for remotely controlled and automated inland vessels, by promoting cross-border operations and driving forward the adoption of automated solutions across Europe. Rijkswaterstaat (RWS), as the fairway authority on Dutch national waterways, is responsible for enforcing the regulations outlined in the Binnenvaartpolitiereglement (BPR). As such, RWS conducted an implementation review of this amendment and was already actively involved in the modifications of the Rhine Shipping Regulations (RPR), ensuring that these changes are practical and feasible. We at SEAFAR are enthusiastic about continuing our close and trusted cooperation with Rijkswaterstaat, as together with our clients we collectively shape the future in inland shipping!

"AI-enabled tools are revolutionizing maritime safety and reducing the environmental impact of port activities through digital transformation," says Ghazaleh Kia, R&D Project Manager at SEAFAR. At a recent PIONEERS Ports EU Project event in collaboration with imec, SEAFAR showcased our latest advancements in automated vessels. The event featured a 360° virtual tour of Seafar’s remote control center and an operational barge, developed in collaboration with HOWEST Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen, as well as demonstrations of AI-powered situational awareness and object detection, sensor fusion technology, and innovative simulator. Special thanks to Port of Antwerp-Bruges for leading and making this demonstration possible. Have a look yourself!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from HAROPA PORT, Groupe SOGESTRAN, Le Havre - Fécamp Pilot Station and Pilotage De La Seine at our ROC in Antwerp. Our discussions centered on the applicability and potential of remote controlled operations in France, particularly in busy seaports. Specifically, we touched upon several key areas: 🔹 Technological Integration: Aligned on the requirement that seamless integration of remote controlled operations with existing port infrastructure and traffic is paramount.  🔹 Efficiency Gains: Developed a mutual understanding on how remote controlled vessels can streamline operations, reduce turnaround times, and enhance overall port efficiency.  🔹 Safety Enhancements: Highlighted the improved safety measures that remote navigation can bring to port operations, minimizing human error and risk.  🔹 Environmental Impact: Considered the potential for remote controlled ships to reduce emissions and contribute to greener port activities. The potential for remote navigation in transforming port operations is immense, and our discussions yesterday have laid a strong foundation for future collaboration. We look forward to continuing this journey and turning these opportunities into realities. #RemoteControlledOperations #SeaportInnovation #Logistics #MaritimeTechnology #Sustainability #PortEfficiency #Shipping #InlandShipping
