Last week the WHO declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) and Sweden reported the first case outside of the African continent. The WHO's recent declaration of a global health emergency due to a more severe mpox variant is a stark reminder of our vulnerability to infectious diseases. Sweden's first confirmed case demands immediate attention and a thorough evaluation of our preparedness. https://lnkd.in/dWScCCnb As a former regional councilor in Stockholm, I witnessed firsthand the challenges of a public health crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial uncertainty, overwhelming workload, and heartbreaking losses of lives highlighted the critical need for robust preparedness. While we've learned invaluable lessons, it's clear that significant improvements are still required. The Corona Commission’s findings underscore the importance of decisive and early action. We must avoid repeating past mistakes by establishing clear responsibilities between government levels and relying on a multi-faceted approach to public health. https://lnkd.in/d3EiKSuS Can we compare mpox with the corona pandemic? My answer is no. While mpox and COVID-19 are distinct, we can apply the knowledge gained from the pandemic to strengthen our response. By prioritizing preparedness, effective communication, political action and collaborative leadership, we can mitigate the impact of future health crises.  #healthpolicy #leadership #covid19 #mpox

  • 💡 How does change communication become successful? What distinguishes a good communication strategy? Read on for a few insights from our Senior Consultant at Rud Pedersen Public Affairs Germany Aline Lahaye ⬇ featured in KOM- Magazine for Communication. 💬 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 I give companies a voice in the political arena. I help them understand the impact of regulatory processes and political decisions on their business, position their interests and enrich political decision-making with knowledge from business practice. 💬 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐲 𝐣𝐨𝐛 Very important in my job are empathy and the ability to work in a team. Since the political day-to-day business is fast-moving and difficult to plan, good political communication only works with a sense for the right time and addressing the right target group. 💬 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐞 The increasing use of applications with generative AI fascinates and worries me at the same time. AI tools make our day-to-day work much easier. I am convinced that the creative aspect of our work and the core skills of political communication – empathy and relationships – cannot be replaced by AI. 💬 𝐀 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 Planning ahead. Communication, especially in transformation processes, often fails as communication is not thought about from the start and then must be implemented ad hoc. The basis of a good communication strategy is therefore a well-thought-out communication plan with clear key messages and content that are in line with the transformation objectives. This involves planning of communication measures, the selection of suitable communication channels and the definition of roles and responsibilities. 💬 𝐀 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 Transparency, shared responsibility, and a clear goal, which should ideally be supported by everyone involved. For a cultural transformation to work in the long term, it is important to include those affected in the process from the outset. This can be achieved by involving them in the individual steps, formulating the goal of the transformation process clearly and showing a way to work towards it. Active participation by transferring clear responsibilities in the process gives those involved the feeling the transformation and thus their future lies in their hands. 📩 Want to learn more about strategic political communication, change communication or our work at Rud Pedersen Public Affairs Germany? 🇪🇪 The new Estonian government assumed office on July 23rd and our office in Tallinn have created an overview of the main points. Meta Advisory Group's government relations team's report introduced the agenda of the new Estonian government, their key goals and ambitions, as well as an overview of the new ministers.  Since the European Council nominated Estonia's previous Prime Minister Kaja Kallas as the candidate for the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, then the liberal centre-right Reform Party elected a new Estonian Prime Minister – Kristen Michal. The primary challenge facing this administration is to strike a balance between finding a sustainable solution to the substantial public sector deficit and addressing the increasing demands for resources in the defence sector. META’s government relations team lead, Kairi Uustulnd says: 💬 ”The new government enters a challenging time having to combine ongoing tax reforms from the previous government, austerity measures and planned tax increases. Entrepreneurs need to follow closely the development of these different measures to understand how their businesses are affected. At the same time, there are opportunities for businesses, as the government aims to find measures to ease making business and boost economic growth.” 💡 For additional information, analysis and insights, don’t hesitate to contact with META’s government relations team – Andreas Kaju, Kairi Uustulnd, Ott Lumi(Phd in Governance and Political Science ).
