🌍 𝗘𝗨’𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁: 𝗔 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Sunday, 18 August marked a significant step forward as the Nature Restoration Law (#NRL) officially becomes legally binding across the EU. This is a critical moment for halting biodiversity loss, achieving our #ClimateNeutrality goals, mitigating #disasters, and enhancing #FoodSecurity. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲? 🌿 By 2030, Member States will establish national restoration plans for at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas. 🌿 By 2050, restoration measures should cover all ecosystems in need of recovery. 🌿 The NRL addresses all types of ecosystems, from urban green spaces to agricultural land and coastal areas. For example, restoring at least 25,000 km of rivers to their natural, free-flowing state will reduce flood risks and revive aquatic ecosystems. Importantly, the NRL isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Europe’s diverse landscapes require tailored restoration targets, considering each country’s unique challenges and opportunities. Each Member State will develop its own national restoration plan, prioritizing needs and measures to meet the NRL’s targets.
